President's Corner:

Dawn AbbottDear fabulous ISES members,

What a great meeting we had in October.  Cielo at Castle Pines is a beautiful venue, the Food Guy provided a great lunch and the speaker was so thought provoking.   I hope you all enjoyed the luncheon format.  The Ethics topic is intriguing, especially in our industry.  Dr. Wittmer mentioned that many industries, like medicine and law, have very well defined codes and laws that govern their ethics.  The Special Events industry is relatively young in the grand scheme of history and the code of ethics are so often based upon interpretation & the specific situation.  However I do think it was a great opportunity to explore some of the ethical questions posed by members.  I also thought the frame of reference for making ethical decisions using his "questions to ask yourself" is invaluable.  I will use that from here forward in both my professional and my personal life as well as share the information with many of those with whom I cross paths.  Please take a moment to check out The ISES professional Code of Ethics on our website at www.isesdenver.com, when you have time.  It is a great tool to gauge your standard of ethics for yourself & your company, etc. and make sure you are acting in accordance with the very broad and basic standards that prove you are a true professional.

I am looking forward to Network for the Needy on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from Noon - 1:30 pm at  the Denver Merchandise Mart Plaza Building REGISTER ONLINE HERE.  I love being there amongst such a huge crowd of just about everyone in the entire Denver events industry.  Not to mention I have to remind myself not to eat all week so I can gorge myself on all the amazing food.  ISES Denver will not be holding a meeting in November to support this MIC event.  Please remember to bring your canned foods to put them into the ISES can on site and make sure to check ISES as your membership organization when you register.  There is a food drive competition and of course we would love ISES to be a contender.  I am sorry that I failed to mention that all of the proceeds of the prize drawing we did at the October meeting will go to the Food Bank of The Rockies as part of the ISES contributions towards Network for the Needy.  Hope to see you all there!

Please remember to give us any feedback you may have regarding your membership, the meetings, what you would like to see and what is working, etc.  Your board is quite honestly just guessing as to what we think would be beneficial to you.  We are here to serve the good of the entire ISES Denver membership, so help us make this association the best it can be by getting involved and speaking up if you have ideas or suggestions.

All my best regards,
Dawn Abbott

ISES Denver October Education Luncheon Recap

Thank you to everyone for making the short trip south to Cielo at Castle Pines! The educational luncheon was a success as our guest speaker, Dennis Wittmer from University of Denver's Daniel's College of Business, gave us great insight on ethical business practices.
