President's Corner:
What a
great July Happy Hour! Root Down is a
fabulous venue and it was great to see so many members enjoying a lovely summer
evening.
Your new
board is off to a great start and we have so much in the works to make this an
outstanding year. Stay tuned for news
and updates on all that we have in store!
The Programs
committee has some exciting new programs and of course some of the tried and
true favorites of the past. They already
have secured some of the best nationally known speakers and the best venues in
town. You are going to love the meetings
this year!
The Membership
folks have some great ideas for networking and helping members get the most for
their membership. Look for our new "ISES
Breakers", some fun new ways that will help you meet as many people as you can
when you come to a networking meeting.
The
Communications committee has begun the first phase of a brand new ISES Denver
chapter website, which will be user friendly and allow you to have the most
updated information about our chapter and what is going on with ISES.
I am so
excited to be announcing our 2nd Anniversary Town Hall Meeting
scheduled for August 19th at Dave & Buster's on Colorado Blvd. It was so well received last year, we knew it
needed to be an annual meeting. This is a
"Member Only" event in which you will get to hear all about your chapter. Where we have been, where we are going, what
our budget is, how we fit into the International Special Event Society, and how
you can get the most of your membership.
We will also be hosting roundtable discussions focusing on the "Hot
Topics" in the industry. You will not
want to miss this very informative gathering of ISES Denver Chapter members.
If you have
not completed the end of the year survey - please do so. The board honestly wants to make sure that we
are doing everything we can to make our chapter the best it can be. We need to know your opinions & ideas so
that we can strive to meet the needs of our members and be the organization
that you find a valuable part of your life.
I hope to
see some of you at Eventworld in San
Francisco the first week in August. I will report back anything I learn that may
be helpful to all of us in our "event lives".
Remember please contact me if you should have any questions, comments, ideas,
suggestions or you just want to say HI!
All my best regards, Dawn Abbott

| DANCE TRAX ENTERTAINMENT, INC. PURCHASES ELECTRICAL AND CARBON CREDITS TO OFFSET EMISSIONS AT 10 ISES EVENTS:
Dance Trax has teamed with Renewable Choice Energy in Boulder, CO to create a program that allows ISES to offset its electrical and carbon footprint at 10 meetings starting with the ISES Green Meeting in November of 2008. This 10 meeting commitment is similar to: - Planting 127 mature trees or - Not driving 31,507 miles in an average car
At the time of purchase, this commitment cost - $0.01 / kWh (kilowatt hour) and - $9.50 / MtCO2e (metric ton of carbon emissions)
Dance Trax was one of the first entertainment and production companies in Colorado to literally offer wind powered entertainment and production services. Renewable Choice made it possible for Dance Trax to purchase wind power certificates to replace all of the electrical energy it uses in its office, its warehouse and at every event they supply services for throughout the year.
In addition to replacing energy used on the grid with wind power, Dance Trax purchased carbon credits to offset the carbon footprint caused by their equipment trucks and all of their employee's personal vehicles used to get to and from events.
