2009 Meetings Industry Council of Colorado

Educational Conference and Trade Show:

Join your ISES peers at the 9th annual Meetings Industry Council of Colorado Educational Conference and Trade Show on March 18, 2009 at the Colorado Convention Center.

The 12 organizations that make up the MIC produced our first conference in 2001 to offer one mega event for our combined membership rosters of more than 3,000 planners and suppliers.

This is your opportunity to experience top-notch educational seminars, a speaker showcase, and visit a trade show of more than 100 suppliers from North America who service our events.

Plus, ISES benefits financially for every ISES participant who attends the Conference and checks the ISES membership box on the registration form.

So help our organization and your career by going to www.mic-colorado.org TODAY and sign up for the Conference.  This is THE major educational event for meeting and event professionals in Colorado.  Don't miss it!

Sessions will include topics that are important to the meeting professional including Managing Professional Relationships, Organizing Your Work Space, Customer Service, Retaining Key Employees and Relationships, Making the Most Out of Your Budget in this Economy, Forecasting Trends in the Industry, Working to Increase Attendance from All Generations, Technology for Today's Busy Meeting Planner and Embracing Corporate Social Responsibility.

2008's Effect on the Event Industry's New Year:

The New Year is upon us and the resolutions have already begun to take over conversation at the coffee shops and conference rooms. But before making any resolutions and promises for change in the New Year, shouldn't we figure out what issues of 2008 will flow into 2009? Sure the economic downturn played a significant role in our day-today lives in 2008, however, as most event professionals know, what happens in the previous year always has more of an effect on our industry the following year. So, what does this mean to us for 2009? Get the creative juices flowing.

One major change that businesses in the event industry must succeed with for 2009 is making sure our clients get more bang for their buck. The purpose and outcome of the event will rain higher than the centerpieces and parting gifts. Our clients are going to want reasons behind every dollar we spend of their budgets. While these tasks have always been part of our jobs, our clients are now making it more of their jobs to ensure their events are giving them the highest return on the dollars they are investing. Another valuable change for 2009 is that we must think and act more creatively about how we present our products and services to our clients. The time is now for event professionals to up the ante on the value of our goods. Whether we sell floral designs or provide planning services, our goal for 2009 should be to enhance our value so that clients view our products and services as necessities not enhancements for their events. Consumers will continue to focus on fulfilling basic needs and businesses will follow.

The event industry as a whole will need to take the changes of 2008 by the horns and make the necessary changes to stay afloat in the unpredictable New Year. Think outside the box, focus on 2008's event post-evaluation opinions of the attendees, help each other out in the event industry whenever possible to ensure our industry continues to grow as a whole and be smart with trying new things and taking risks. 2009 will be an interesting year for the event industry, but together we can make it a successful interesting year.

December Meeting Recap:

December's networking meeting truly was a blast.  We were treated to a very entertaining performance by Cody Horton, certified hypnotist.  Who knew the staff at the Cable Center had such great dance moves?  We even got a surprise visit from Santa (see below.)  To top it all off this was our inaugural "ISES gives back" event where we raised money for the Denver Rescue Mission.  Thanks to all who attended.
