acting on it! Strategic Sense Collaborates!
Greetings!
Much has been said about `getting ahead of your competitor`or `bringing down the competition` but great leaders know that collaboration is king! I`m not saying sell your trade secrets to your competitors, but I AM saying you need to build relationships with key companies in your industry who complement to your services, because these relationships will launch you much further than you can go alone.
This also applies to interdepartmental collaboration. The marketing department is NOT in competition with the sales department and R&D is not in competition with operations. While at budget time it might feel otherwise, a good leader knows he will gain far more for the department, company and his/her career by working TOGETHER with the rest of the organization.
With that in mind, I wanted to share some gems from key collaborators I work with in leadership and I thought there was no better way to do that than to have them offer you information about what they do or how they make a significant difference to the world in the Leadership arena. They are here to offer you some powerful insight!
Enjoy! Patti

Personal Development Is personal development the responsibility of the company or YOUR responsibility. While it is true a company will benefit by providing loyal employees with technical training reflecting the core competency of the employee's role, becoming a better leader is your responsibility.
Stepping into a leadership role or moving toward improving your leadership is a key ingredient to improving productivity and ultimately increasing the bottom-line. When was the last time an employee in your company said, "My CEO/VP really has it going on, they totally get what we do and they really work toward the company vision!"
For a more likely example of 'employee viewpoint' click here ... "A Letter To The CEO" from the Strategic Sense Blog.

Great Leaders Stay on Target by David Porter
Do you know what the #1 challenge facing
leaders is today? Focus. Laser-clear focus. The information age of the 21st
Century means the world in which you live is moving faster and faster with each
passing month. Information comes at you
at light speed with no less than 5,000 marketing messages bombarding you
each day.
How do you cope? How do you succeed? How do you just survive? The simple, yet complex answer is focus. Great leaders must find their resonating
target on the horizon which they will pursue with abandon. They must have a focus point that stirs their
soul to keep then energized and engaged.
Without this, no amount of technical expertise or marketing acumen
matters. People can sense passion. They can distinguish between fakers and the
genuine article. You must be the genuine
article. To gain a better understanding
of the importance of your resonating target, get my free audio mini-course at http://www.SeizeYourTargetMiniCourse.com.
Once you have identified and committed to
your resonating target, then you must execute.
At the core of that execution is the leading of a team. While many struggle with this requirement of
leadership, there are 12 key strategies that can help. I call these the Pillars of BullsEye
Leadership. They walk you through the
critical touch points that you need to master to do more with more - more
focus, more passion and more RESULTS.
Learn more about these pillars in my free video series at http://www.12PillarVideos.com.
In the end, if you can identify and commit
to your resonating target you will have focus.
Once you are focused, success is nothing more than to keep doing the
right things until you reach success.
So, begin to find your target today.
It is your key to the life you want.

Clarity Eliminates Drama
By Marlene Chism
My definition for Drama is "any obstacle to your peace and
prosperity." Where there is drama, whether it's a power struggle at work, the
feeling of overwhelm or a problem in a personal relationship, you will always
see a lack of clarity.
One of my sayings is "The one with clarity navigates the
ship and everyone else shovels coal."
When the leader and everyone else are clear about the
vision, everyone rows in the same direction. When we are in the fog...we get
confused and that is where our power struggles come in.
If you are in the midst of a lot of drama, the people who
are negative have more clarity about their commitment to the drama than the
ones who want peace and prosperity. You have to get completely clear about who
you are, and how that plays into the mission of the organization.
Clarity can literally solve any problem. To see how go to www.stopyourdrama.com/2009calls.html

What is a Blue Collar Manager? By Bart Gragg
Blue Collar managers are unique - they seemingly do not belong in either labor or management according to the interviews and work I have done with them. In fact, during one lecture an audience member referred to himself as a 'pariah', not belonging to either group and being treated that way by both groups. The single most prominent challenge that managers who have moved from the field/warehouse into the office face is an environmental change. This environmental change actually has subsets such as:
- Physical Environment
- Social
- Economical
- Technological
- Financial
- Legal
- Skill sets
- Perceived lack of support
- Why Would You EVER Support a New Manager?
- The Loss of, well, several things
There are other challenges to be sure. Bart's next few posts on his blog will be looking at each of the above separately.
Such As:
* What those changes entail * What we can do to alleviate or minimize them
What other challenges do you see? Don't forget to leave a comment on his site!

He understands the pain these managers go through and the attitude it takes to succeed. He is consultant, speaker and author of "Managing or Mangling - A Brief Plea for Sanity in Management" The Blue Collar UniversityŽ website and the blog are both great resources for "Blue Collar Managers.
