Freedom to Choose!
"This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live" Deuteronomy 30:19
I recently received a call from a young man in great distress. His friend had aborted her child and she was completely broken by her decision. He needed to help her as quickly as possible as he was afraid she would take her own life. What a tragic legacy we are leaving our children! With our grand sounding rhetoric about "freedom to choose" and "women's rights" we have created an abyss into which we throw these young lives! By the time our young people realize what they are choosing, their child is dead and they are in despair.
Approximately 7,000 women in Cuyahoga County choose abortion over life for their infant children every year. And for the first time in nearly a decade the abortion rate in Cuyahoga County went up in 2008! It is no secret that from at least 2006 onward, there was a concerted effort on the part of many of our educators, church leaders, and families in northeast Ohio to downplay the evil of abortion. The abortion debate was over, they liked to tell us - we must now work to "reduce" abortion not end abortion. This fit nicely with political views that fed a strategy to elect the most abortion minded anti-human life president and administration of US history.
We have now perfected our "freedom to choose" and turned it into a "freedom to destroy"! Choosing to deny another human their right to live will never bring blessings but instead, the curses we see in the despair of our young friend above. The choice we are facing is not what is my right or what is your right - rather it is what is morally right for all human life. To make the moral choice it is critical that we have knowledge of the options before us, and understanding of the outcomes of those options. "The mind of the intelligent gains knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge" (Proverbs 18:15).
Our recent two day symposium "Bringing America Back to Life" saw 12 international pro-life speakers provided this knowledge and understanding to nearly 1000 citizens of northeast Ohio, encouraging them to be informed; to be engaged; to be faithful to God's Word and in so doing, to give each innocent human life the right to life (for CD's of our speaker presentiations please click here). In January, our 2nd Annual "March for Life" was a stunning success with 800 people in attendance. This was followed by the Youth Rally for Life where almost 200 students eloquently expressed their determination to be the generation who would overturn the barbaric civil laws that promote the violence of abortion and thus deny children their right to live. We commend all of you who attended and supported these events! And this Saturday (July 17th) we will see hundreds of families and youth bands join other pro-lifers on Edgewater beach to show their support for innocent life! Your partnership with the pro-life movement is forming a buffer zone around our children to protect them from the warped and ignorant philosophy now prevalent in most First World countries! Proof of such ignorance and immorality is evidenced in the recent Life Decision International (LDI) report, of 20,000 plus European "Facebook" users who signed up as "fans" of a site whose sole purpose was to belittle and denigrate people with Down Syndrome. The creator of the original site called children with Down's "useless baggage" and "foul creatures: and posted this statement - "Let's use Down's [sic] kids for target practice because it's the only end these parasites deserve." At the same time this was occurring in Europe, LDI notes that a Russian journalist Aleksandr Nikonov choose to publish an article titled "Finish it off so it doesn't suffer", which described disabled newborns as "defective blanks" and "newborn idiots". When taken to task for his article he defended his views with the same old argument we hear every day in support of "abortion on demand"; in our classrooms; in our political arena; and always met with a deafening silence in many of our churches and around the dinner table. Here's what Nikonov wrote
"What we offer is choice .... We don't stand against wheel cart ramps or your right to bring up disabled children; we stand for the right to choose."
This of course begs the question, " just what are you choosing"! The sad reality is - that while many of you are awake at the moral switch and are doing all in your power to defend our humanity - as a country we have just imported this warped logic to America with the election of a pro-death administration. We need look no further then the recently passed healthcare legislation which has institutionalized this same immoral "choice" and who considers abortion, euthanasia and the destruction of disabled people to be a healthcare option - paid for with your tax dollars!
Please join us as we Choose Life. And as we demand that our voices be heard, our choice will solicit accusations of "not being nice"; of creating "divisiveness'; of being 'uncivil'. Our response must be that we choose to be, in the words of Trey Gowdy a SC prosecutor, "extraordinarily contrasting" so as to allow the all humans, born and unborn, healthy and infirm, to join the civil discussion. Let those, who currently are denied their right to live, decide if we were uncivil in our efforts!
Albert Einstein said "The most important human endeavor is the striving for morality in our actions. Our inner balance and even our very existence depends on it. Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity to our lives"
Cleveland Right to Life is committed to presenting the truth about life choices - so that all might live! In so doing we have been and will continue to be "extraordinarily contrasting". To continue our efforts we need your financial support. We need to raise $50,000 in the next 90 days if we are to continue to engage in this "most important human endeavor".
We ask you to generously support our efforts-and to do so with all your might and with great courage so that together we will choose life so that our children might live and that once living they might have extraordinary wisdom to always make the right choice in their young lives.
We thank you for your generosity and ask that you pray for the unborn child every day - that all human life will be respected and treated with dignity.
