Bucket List Revisited
The movie "Bucket List" made popular the concept of developing a list of things to do before you die. It was close to two decades before the movie that the book "The Aladdin Factor" also challenged readers to develop a list of things to do in a lifetime with the premise being that others can and will help, being the genie to you (Aladdin). Just having the list opens the door to opportunities to enrich life. And sometimes, remaining open to things presents opportunities that, once experienced, make you think "I would not have thought of that for my list, but now that I did it, I think I will add it and check it off!" One such event occurred Saturday night.
Kim received an invitation for us to ride in a float at Galveston's Mardi Gras parade for fun and bead throwing. I had never been to Mardi Gras, and the chance to attend while riding a float seemed like a great way to experience the event. It was! Time flew as I watched the faces and antics (and lack of antics) of those along the parade route, while tossing beads as fast as possible. It all ended quickly and my enjoyment wasn't based on drinking and dancing, but by observing and sharing.
I never thought that would be have been on one of my lists, but I will add it and check it off. And I will remember that in life you can find new bucket list items by accident, and part of the reward will be in doing things your own way.
