January 3, 2010

Good thing I was under the weather for most of this holiday break from work.  It prevented me from accomplishing the things I had planned on doing, but it also kept me from those annoying new year resolutions.  I am disappointed to not get a lot of things done that I had planned on, but I'm glad that I don't have a list of resolutions, too.

It would be easy to come up with a list of goals for the year.  There are books to write, photos to create, friends to connect with and so on.  Sure, there is also weight to lose, the never-ending struggle to be a better person, and the elusive quest to improve my physical conditioning.  Sound familiar?

Being sick, my wish each day was to simply feel a bit better, do a bit more and take a bit better care.  I figured that if I could do those things in the moments, then by the end of the day I would be in a slightly better place than the day before, and eventually I'd be back to my potential.  It occurred to me that that is perhaps the goal that I can manage.

I have no resolution this year other than to try to be a bit better in the moment; I figure the year will then take care of itself.
