From the Administration
Although this has been a short week, it has been filled with activity. We particularly enjoyed watching our younger students perform the French plays they have been working so hard on. Another great activity was Reading Buddies. All year, our older students have been taking the time to go into the lower grades and read with the younger students. This Thursday, they read French books in honour of the French Festival. Watching the way the kids connected was delightful.

This week, we spent a lovely Wednesday evening at the 10th Anniversary AJA 50+ Gala dinner. The event raised funds to provide students with scholarships to attend OJCS. It was very emotional for us, to see all these people, many of them bubbies and zaidies, caring so much about the next generation. Particularly emotional was a heartfelt speech given by David Smith. He donated everything he provided for the lavish dinner, from food to flowers, so all the funds would be channelled to the school. He explained to the crowd that he had wanted to attend Hillel when he was a child but, as he comes from a very large family, they could not afford to send him. He wants to provide other kids with an opportunity he missed.

Let's hope the rain continues to hold off and everyone enjoys a well-deserved long weekend.

Shabbat shalom,

 Important Notes
  • Mrs. Waxman will be at school for 8 am every morning in order to walk with the students who would like to prepare for the Walkathon.  She would love to have a big group of children to practice with her.
  • Many of our students and families have signed up for the Run/Walkathon and now we'd like to concentrate on our fundraising efforts for this upcoming event.  We are so thrilled that this year, all donations collected from OJCS fundraising will come directly to our school.
  • Yearbooks are now on sale! Please bring $20 in an envelope to the office to order.
Used Uniform Information
The Used Uniform Sale is coming up soon, on Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14, from 3 - 4:30 pm. As with last year, the last two weeks of school will be uniform-free. Further, the Friday before, June 10th, will be our last dress-down day, as well as the last day to hand in your used uniforms for sale.

To hand in your uniforms for sale, go to the website and click on the link to download the form (one per child). Please note that the date to submit an order to Top Marks for new uniforms and ensure their arrival before next school year has been moved from June 15th to June 17th.
