From the Administration Can you believe there's only a week of school left before our Pesach break? The teachers and students have been working hard on preparing for their model seders next week.
We also had our grade one Siddur Party this week, which is always a highlight of the year. The students get a chance to sing and dance, and demonstrate to their parents and grandparents how much they are learning in a really fun way. But the occasion also marks an important moment in their education at Hillel. Receiving their siddurim tells our students that they are really ready to learn their prayers. They have learned to read Hebrew and have a solid basis for their future Judaic studies. We always love this special event, as it is amazing to see how far our students have come in such a short time.
Shabbat shalom,

Important Notes
- The May hot lunch calendar is now up on the website. It is due back in the PTA box on Thursday, April 14. The PTA is looking for more volunteers to help at lunch time, so if you have a few minutes to spare, please email Linda Melamed. If they do not get enough volunteers, the program will have to be cancelled.
- The model seders are all next week. Your child will be asked to bring in a hard-boiled peeled egg, a piece of lettuce and a piece of celery. The school will provide the rest. On Tuesday, April 12, ADK and grades 5 and 6 will have their seders. On Wednesday, April 13, grades 1, 7 and 8 will have their seders. On Thursday, April 14, grades 3 and 4 will have their seders. Finally, grade 2 will have their seder on Friday, April 15.
- The date for the uniform fitting is Tuesday, May 3, 3:30-7 pm, in the Hillel gym. We are also in the process of organizing our Used Uniform Sale again this year. Stay tuned for details.

Grade One Siddur Party
One of the highlights of grade one at Hillel Academy is the Siddur Party. The students and their teachers work hard to present a celebration of the importance of the students receiving their first siddurim. Every student got their own siddur, with covers individually decorated by their parents.

The Regional Science Fair was last weekend. As with other years, the judges met with our students on Friday to talk to them about their projects and then Mr. Lamb stayed by himself with the projects on Saturday during the rest of the fair. Rachel S., in 7th grade, came away with a silver medal in the Life Sciences category for her project, "Do Vinegar, Honey and Garlic Have Anti-Fungal/Bacterial Properties?" Eighth grade students Abby and Meredith, won an honourable mention in the Health Sciences category for their project, "How Much Bacteria Accumulates in Different Types of Water Bottles?"
Mr. Lamb said he was very proud of the depth of knowledge and the enthusiasm demonstrated by all Hillel's fair participants. |

Kicking off our program of "How Things Work," which helps our students learn about how science is applicable in the real world, the students in grades 7 and 8 visited the Blood Bank this week. Hillel mom, Dr. Elianna Saidenberg (pictured above), taught the students the basics of blood types and blood transfusions. (photo: Matt Silverman)

Looking For ...
- Kosher food. We are starting to collect kosher food for the Kosher Food Bank and have a box in the front hall beside the PTA box. It will be there until Shavuot.
- Baby stuff! Grade 2 is doing their part to support the school vision of "Giving Back to the Community" and collecting donations of baby items. Right, Kole and Aliza hold some of the most needed donations - diapers, baby food and formula. Donations can be brought to the grade 2 classroom, room 109.
