From the Administration
The deadline for early re-registration has just passed and we are delighted with the great response we had this year. Thanks to everyone who got their forms in already. The sooner we know how many students we have in each grade, the sooner we can plan our budget. Spring is finally showing signs of arriving, and we are busy looking ahead to the fall.

As you will see below, it was another busy week here. We know we mentioned the Entrepreneur Fair last week, but we just have to take another moment to tell you of how proud we were of our grades 6 - 8 students. They came to school on the last day of the Fair dressed in business attire and worked hard to present themselves and their businesses to the judges in the most professional way possible. We can present opportunities such as this Entrepreneur Fair to our students, but it is up to them to make what they will of the experiences they are offered. We believe our students took this opportunity and really ran with it and we were amazed and delighted with results. Congratulations to not just the winners in each grade, but to all our hard-working entrepreneurs.

Shabbat shalom,

Entrepreneur Fair
Business
The students in grade 6, 7 and 8 were very busy last week and the beginning of this week creating their own businesses. In groups of 4 or 5, the students planned out every aspect of their businesses, creating budgets, employee profiles, potential locations, business cards and models of their businesses. They then greeted parents and judges as potential investors, hoping to convince them that they were worth investing in.

At the end of the last day, the groups were awarded ribbons based on the amount of investor money they managed to raise. Each grade won a first prize. In grade 6, Bake it Right won, with 41% investor capital. Grade 7's F3 Cosmetics won with 26% investor capital, and the overall winner was grade 8's Creative Cupcakes, which ended up with a very impressive 59% investor capital.

Torah-Making WorkshopTorah

Earlier this week, the students in grade 2 had some fascinating hands-on learning about how Torah scrolls are created . Rabbi Blum of the Ottawa Torah Centre showed them all the stages, from scraping down the animal hide (as shown at right) to producing the special parchment needed and even how to write the letters correctly. Below, Max, Omer and Lea use feathers and special ink to try to write the special letters of the Torah on their own pieces of parchment.

Reading buddiesReading buddies
The students in grade 1 got a visit from their grade 5 reading buddies this week. This visit, the fifth grade students not only read with their first grade buddies, but helped them to write stories as well. Above, Kenny reads to Bennett, left; Soshana helps Abby with her story.

100 books

Meghan and Noa are our latest first grade students to reach 100 books!

Ireland
It's Ireland month in grade 5, and the students all presented biographies of famous Irish people. Above, left, Steven is Ernest Thomas Sinton Walton, the first physicist to artificially split the atom and the only Irish person to win a Nobel Prize in science. Jacob poses as Bond, James Bond, as played by Irishman Pierce Brosnan.
haggadah
The ADK students are working hard on their own special haggadot to bring home to use at the seders. Above, Jacob colours his maror before glueing it in his book.
Looking For ...baby stuff
  • Baby stuff! Grade 2 is doing their part to support the school vision of "Giving Back to the Community" and collecting donations of baby items. Right, Kole and Aliza hold some of the most needed donations - diapers, baby food and formula. Donations can be brought to the grade 2 classroom, room 109.
  • gently-used children's books for the Library Used Book Sale.
