From the Administration
After all the activity of the past few weeks, with our Science and Art Fairs, this week seemed somewhat calmer - a nice way to head into our March Break.

It was nice to see so many of you our at our first ever Parents Night, where we got to schmooze and learn about a variety of topics, from tax benefits to helping your kids with homework.

Our students have been having a good time this week, preparing for Purim. Don't forget to send them in costume on our first day back after the break, since that is when we will be having our Purim celebrations.

Finally, we want to congratulate our spelling champion, Ander, who won our school-wide spelling bee and passed a challenging test to make it to the next level, the Regional CanWest Spelling Bee. He competed last weekend, making it through to the second round. We are very proud of him!
Shabbat shalom and have a great break,

 Important Notes
  • Reregistration forms are due back by March 31 in order to take advantage of the $350 discount per child. Please note that payment with VISA or MC incurs a 3% service charge and AMEX is a 3.25% service charge.
  • Remember to send your children in costume on the Monday we return from March Break. The older students will be running a Purim Carnival for the younger ones, with ADK having their own celebration.
  • The form for April's hot lunch is up on the website. The form is due back on Thursday, March 24 at the absolute latest.
A Visit From Rabbi Popky
Popky
Wednesday morning, the students in grade 5 had a visit from Rabbi Popky to talk about kashrut, as part of that unit in Dinim.
CanWest SpelingAnder

Grade 5 student Ander, our school CanWest Spelling winner this year, made it to the Regionals, held last week at the Museum of Civilization.

Ander was up against 58 other spelling champs. He made it to the second round, being taken down by the word 'rhinoceros' (which I spelled so wrong the first time I tried that my spell check didn't even have any other suggestions for me).

Congratulations to our school champion!

Friendship Circle
On Thursday, the students in grade 8 had fun making mishloach manot packages for the Friendship Circle at the Jewish Youth Library.

Winter!Avishai

Finally, winter as it is supposed to be in Ottawa! Too bad it decided to arrive in March.

Below, the kids of ADK, Stella, Emma, Abby, Molly and Julia protect their snowman from the rain.  Right, Avishai has only been in Canada for a few months, but he has figured out how to have fun in the snow.

The students in garde 6 Extended French practiced their oral French with small skits called

Dialogues this week. Above, Jacob, Rebecca, Maya and possibly Lady Gaga, present their skit.

Looking For ...milkbags
  • ADK is looking for donations of any circus-related items for their grand end-of-year circus!
  • Thank you for all the donated milk bags, and keep them coming! We have a box by the office for them. Our high school students have been working hard weaving them into sleeping mats to be sent to Haiti. Right, Sascha holds up 'before' and 'after'.
