From the Administration Congratulations to our Science Fair winners! We had 22 judges here on Thursday morning - scientist parents of current and former Hillel students along with a few of our Scientists in School scientists. They spent two hours quizzing our students in grades 7 and 8 about their projects. Our winners reflect the wide diversity of topics.
In grade 7, they are: Bronze - Rachel, "Do Vinegar, Honey and Garlic Have Anti-Fungal/Bacterial Properties?" Silver - Benjamin, "How Many Calories are Generated from Burning Wood?" Gold - Jordan and Rachel, "How do Companies Track You on the Internet?"
In grade 8, they are: Bronze - Meredith and Abigail, "How Much Bacteria Accumulates in Different Types of Water Bottles?" Silver - Meera and Hannah, "Which Pain Reliever Has the Fastest Dissolving Time?" Gold - Bradley, "What is the Effect of Super-Cooling on Different Types of Water?"
They will all go forward to the Regional Science Fair, to be held at Carleton University on the weekend of April 1st. We know you join us in wishing them luck!
Shabbat shalom,

Last week was art; this week is science. All our students participated in this year's Science Fair, from ADK to grade 8. Grades 4 - 8 displayed their projects in the gym and the rest in their classrooms. Above left, Amira and Omer demonstrate their experiment with water. Above right, Ben helps Eslyn experiment with a balloon and a bed of nails. Below left, Madame Marlene reacts to the sour taste as students in grade 1 run their experiment on the senses. Below right, Gabriel explains his project on sinkholes.

Ski and Sports Day
Monday's disappointment in the weather turned into delight for Tuesday. The sunshine and new layer of fluffy snow made for a great day, both on the ski hill and on the playground. Purim Carnival
As you know, our Purim celebration will be on Shushan Purim, (the Monday we will be returning from March Break) so send your children in costume! Our program of Mitzvat Mishloah Manot (the exchange of gifts of food) will be prepared in our school by children and volunteer parents. This will ensure that everyone will receive a beautiful, kosher nut-free basket.
We are asking that each child bring in $5.00 by March 11 to cover the cost of the materials. The money should be given to the homeroom teacher.
If you would like to add an extra amount as a donation to give to the Kosher Food Bank, it would be greatly appreciated and can be used as a means of fulfilling the mitzvah of Matanot Laevyonim - gifts to the poor.

Looking For ...
- ADK is looking for donations of any circus-related items for their grand end-of-year circus!
- In the spirit of tikkun olam, we are planning a Green Purim this year. The Purim Carnival committee is looking for donations of small loot bag toys, stickers, hockey cards, etc. We have a bin in the front hall for your donations.
- Thank you for all the donated milk bags, and keep them coming! We have a box by the office for them. Our high school students have been working hard weaving them into sleeping mats to be sent to Haiti. Right, Sascha holds up 'before' and 'after'.
