From the Administration Your child's report card will be in your email inbox today, if it hasn't already arrived, so keep an eye out for that. Parent/Teacher interviews are next week, on Wednesday and Thursday. Please take note that Wednesday will be an early dismissal to accommodate them.
Wednesday and Thursday will also be the days of our annual Scholastic Book Fair, thanks to a group of dedicated parents who stepped forward to make sure it got organized. We don't know where we'd be without our volunteers! We had complaints from some parents in past years about the non-book items that Scholastic also sells - pencils, erasers, stickers, etc - so we have ensured that this year there will only be books offered. If you send your children with money, you can know that they will only bring back books.
The Book Fair will also be open during P/T interview times so you can have the opportunity to browse the sale as well. We will have lots of great books and great prices, and buying them through Scholastic is a great way to support our school. Shabbat shalom,

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. All classes will have a chance to visit - for more information on when you child's class will go, see our website. And we are happy to tell you that this year there will only be books for sale, so you don't need to worry if you send your kids with some money that they will come back with anything else.

Organizers are still looking for a few volunteers, particularly when we are open during P/T interview times. If you can help for some time on either day, please email Wendy Hadad.

This week, grade 8 got to spend some time with the students in grade 2, helping them with their Hebrew reading. Above, Sarina and Ethan read with Lea and Jared.
|
| The students in grade 7 have been learning about the fur trade in class. On Thursday, they went to MacSkimming to learn about it in a more hands-on way. The student got to try out old-fashioned snowshoes in the fresh snow. They also participated in various activities to help them understand the factors involved in trading in Canadian history. |

Scientists in Grade One

The students in grade 1 got a visit from Scientists in School to learn about animal coverings. They got to touch and experiment with fur, feathers, quills, scales and shells. They even got to meet hermit crabs.
Right, Sandra and Ma'ayan figure out the microscope so they can see a porcupine quill up close. Below, Jasper's mom helps Meghan listen to a conch shell. Below that, Joshua closely examines a pelt. And below that, Lucy's mom uses ice to help Chloe understand the insulating properties of fur. |
|
Above, grade 7 students also got the opportunity to learn with Scientists in School this week, looking at the chemistry behind solutions and mixes. Above, Taylor, Olivia, Cammie and Marlin mix up a solution.

Looking For ...
- our high school students have been working hard weaving sleeping mats to be sent to Haiti, using, believe it or not, old milk bags. They've been so industrious they have run out of bags, so if you have empty bags - the large ones that hold the 3 smaller bags of milk - please give them to us. We have a box by the office for them.
