From the Administration
As we start on the new year, we are already looking forward to the next school year. We know you are also starting to think of your plans for September and so we want to highlight our upcoming open houses.

Next Wednesday, our grades 6, 7 and 8 students and their parents are invited to the open house for Yitzhak Rabin High School. We are very proud of our incredible little gem (which is what the Ministry of Education inspector called it earlier this year) and would love the opportunity to show it off to you. For those with younger kids, our ADK open house will be on February 15, so let your friends with young kids know what a great program we have for our little ones as well.

We are also excited about the speaker we are bringing in to talk about assistive technology in education. The speaker, Todd Cunningham, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and grew up with his own learning difficulties to overcome, so his perspective is both personal and professional. The talk is free to our parents (see more info below), but after January 20th, we will be selling tickets to the general public, so get yours before that. To learn more about Todd's talk, click here

  Forest of Reading
forest readingThis is our 7th year participating in the Forest of Reading Club (commonly known as Silver Birch). Mrs. Mackintosh and Mrs. Routliffe will be running the popular program this year. There will be 3 reading programs - Blue Spruce for students in ADK - 2; Silver Birch for students in 3 - 6; and Red Maple for students in 7 - 8.

For more details on how to join, please check our website's library section. To go straight to a list of the books in the program for this year, click here
bowling

The students in grade 7 got to visit Hillel Lodge again, this time playing bowling with the residents.
timeline

The students in grade 1 have just learned how to construct a time line in social studies. They were given a time line sheet that needed to be filled in with the important events of their lives up to the present. They were also allowed to attach small mementos and/or pictures. Their teacher was very impressed with how much effort they put into their creations!
100
As you can see, we have a big group of first grade students who reached 100 books over the past couple of weeks. Above, Sascha, Jasper, Ma'ayan, Kyle, Josh and Chloe.
skating
(photos: Mitch Miller)
The students in grades 4 and 5 were looking forward to a planned trip to skate at the Governor General's skating rink this week. When the GG's office had to cancel the skating at the last minute, Hillel parent Mitch Miller stepped in to the rescue. He arranged for the students to spend the morning skating at Scotiabank Place instead and, as the pictures above demonstrate, everyone had a great time!
melech
The students in ADK have been working on the letter mem. They all got to make crowns to turn themselves into a melech (king) or malkah (queen). Above, Daniel, Samuel and Nico show their crowns.
