From the Administration
We want to let you know that we summarized our curriculum changes and placed them up on the Hillel website for anyone who missed our parent information sessions or just wants to see them for further review. We have placed the results from the last curriculum survey in the same section, under News.

We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that next week will be the last one this year that the students need to wear their uniforms. The last two weeks of school will be uniform-free. Further, next Friday, June 11, will be our last dress-down Friday. We will be collecting the funds raised and putting them towards CHEO.

June 11 will also be the final day to hand in any out-grown uniforms to the office to be included in the Used Uniform Sale. Remember, 50% of anything sold goes back to you and 50% will go towards the PTA, which is running the sale.

Shabbat Shalom,

Some Important Notes
Please take note of the following:
  • We know it is hot, but please remember the dress code - black shoes or sandals for those in grades 1 - 7. No flip-flops are allowed (for any grade), and please think twice about open-toed sandals - we've already had a few crunched toes. Everyone must wear running shoes for gym classes.
  • Yearbooks are on sale, $20.
  • Don't forget that the sale of Loblaws cards is an ongoing fundraiser at the school. You can get the cards from either Tal Gilboa or Pearl Beausoleil (cash or cheque only).
Second-Hand Uniforms Sale
Our Used Uniform Sale has been set for 3:00 to 5:30 pm on Monday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 15 (June 15th is also the date that Top Marks requires its orders in to guarantee shipment by July). It will be a 50/50 sale, with half the proceeds of the sale going back to the seller and half to the PTA. To sell your items, please download and fill out this form from the website, and hand it in to the office with the clothing you wish to sell by Thursday, June 10. To facilitate an easier sale, the last two weeks of school - Monday, June 14 to Thursday, June 24th - will be uniform free. If anyone has some free time to help sell, please contact us.
Walkathon NewsTal
The annual SJCC Walkathon is coming up on June 6 at 9:30 am, and we hope to see a lot of Hillel families there!

The funds raised go to a number of important organizations and programs, but this year, the organizers have also agreed to give 10% of anything raised by Hillel students right back to Hillel. As a further incentive, the class that raises the most money will win a pool party and lunch.

If you can't make it yourself, you could also consider donating to Hillel's own Chai Walker, Student Services Coordinator, Tal Gilboa (pictured on the right). After many years at Hillel, Tal is moving to Montreal and she views this as her last chance to give back to a school she loves. The more money she raises, the larger the percentage that Hillel will get back! You can read more about it, and donate, here.
PTA Camp and School Supplies Fundraisers
The PTA is bringing back its useful and popular School Supply fundraiser. They will be putting together supply kits for every grade, delivered directly to your child's classroom for the start of school in September.

The deadline for submitting orders is Wednesday, June 30. Please download the order form from the website and put it in the PTA box with a cheque made out to Hillel Academy PTA. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Sussman or Gina Camel-Toueg.

The PTA also has a Camp Supply fundraiser. Get your kids set for camp early and support your PTA at the same time! To see the items and obtain an order form, go to the website and put it in the PTA box by June 10.

Remember, the website login is 'parent' and password is 'parent101'.
breakfast
The students in grade 1 got a treat this week when they got to have a gourmet breakfast served at school on Wednesday. The students have been busy learning about the words for different foods. They got bagels, cereal and lots of fruit. Morah Sarah and Mrs. Bennett want to thank the volunteer parents who came in to help feed a lot of small students with remarkably big appetites.
talent show
On Monday, the students had fun with our annual Talent Show. The students danced, tap danced, sang, played instruments and the YRHS band entertained. Above, the Glee Club, under the direction of Shannon Eddy Smith, performs.

dogwalking
The 6th grade students continued their hard work fundraising for their Tikkum Olam project, Guide dogs for the blind. They participated as a group in the Guide dog walkathon and sold treats to other walkers. Above, Noah (with his puppy, Cubby), Rachel, Samara, Noah, Taylor and Victoria. (photo by Howard Sandler)

Royalty Visits Grade 4royalty
The students in Mr. Lamb's social studies class dressed up to present the medieval characters they have been studying. As is probably pretty obvious, Arielle got to be royalty. Other students were serfs, nobles,  blacksmiths, etc.
