From the Administration We hope everyone enjoyed that little preview of summer we arranged for over the Pesach break! Now we are back to blustery spring weather and school work, but the students appear happy and refreshed from their break.
As you know, Hillel has been undergoing a transformation over the past two years. Last June, our curriculum consultant, Dr. Uri Korin, provided us with a report based on months of surveys, parent discussions, and meetings with teachers and various other stakeholders. This year, it was our goal to implement as many recommendations as possible.
For the last couple of months, we have been analyzing and reviewing the Korin Report and the changes we have implemented. We have written a response to the report, now available on the website. A more detailed letter of explanation will be emailed to you later today. We urge you to read that letter, and to go to the website and download the complete document. It will provide you with an accurate snapshot of where we are in the process of revitalizing our school.
Shabbat Shalom,

Some Important Notes
Please take note of the following:- Please remember to register your kids - we are already working on teacher assignments and classroom make-up and really need to know our final numbers.
- Hot lunches will be back next week.
- Tuesday, April 20th is Yom Ha'Atzmaut. We are asking the 8th grade students to also dress in blue and white that day. And don't bother with lunch - the PTA is treating all students to falafel and soup!
- Loblaws cards are still available!

The Students Meet a Survivor
Students from grades 6 and 8 met a Holocaust survivor on Thursday, as part of their Yom Ha'Shoah education. Not only did Cantor Moshe Kraus tell the students about his wartime experiences and how his voice saved him from death (by a German who liked his singing), but he discussed with them one of the big philosophical questions stemming from the Holocaust - why G-d would allow bad things to happen.

Hillel is Going Green!
April 22 is Earth Day, and to celebrate, Hillel is going green all month. We will have lots of special activities, crafts, guest speakers and contests. Keep watching for more details.
One important initiative is Litterless Lunches. Throughout
the month, we are asking students to bring a litter-free lunch.
This will help reduce our waste at Hillel and is an easy way to help the
environment. The class with the greatest number of students that bring a
litterless lunch throughout the month will win a pizza party!
And to help you out, the PTA has a great fundraiser right below. _______________________________________________________________
|
Do you know that buying disposable lunches creates 30 kg of waste per student every year? Even better than recycling is reducingthe waste we produce and the PTA wants to help. They are selling reusable lunch containers, bottles and cutlery. Not only does it save you money in the long run, but they are stylish and fun to use!
Please go to our website to see everythingbeing offered and download an order from. Deadline to order is April 30th.
If you need a closer look, we will have samples of everything in the office very soon, and you can pop in before or after school and take a look.

Grade 2 Adopts a Panda Grade 2 has been lucky enough to have 'volunteer extraordinaire' Laura helping in the classroom since January. She is going to be leaving soon, and as a good-bye gift, she adopted a panda from the World Wildlife Fund for the students. The fuzzy version she's holding will stay in the classroom with the students. The real one is in China.
You can learn more about the adoption here.
