Harvester UMC
Word of the Week July 7, 2009

Pastor's Note

Hellow Harvester Family,

I trust your July 4th weekend was a "remembering" filled one as we appreciate anew not only our political freedom but our spiritual freedom in Christ.

Please continue to uphold the Boudreau's and others with special concerns in prayer. We will keep updated information in the church office. Thanks to each of you offering to help with office needs. We have immediate needs addressed and will be back to you before end of week with a more coordinated plan.

Please also be in prayer for Church Council as they prepare to review the results of the Spiritual Life Survey and share them with the congregation.

Outreach

Living in Faith (LIF)
A group is traveling to Haiti from 7/15 through 7/25 to bring the love of Jesus Christ to people in need. One of the ways that we can be a blessing is to help donate some very basic items for them to take with them on this trip. Beginning Saturday, June 27th through Sunday July 11th we will be collecting material donations. A bin will be placed in the Welcome Center for your donations.  A list of preferred items is included below. If you would like to learn more about this ministry, please contact Anna Mae Griffey at agriffey57@yahoo.com

Sheets & Pillow Cases (all sizes)
Blankets
Towels & Washcloths
Socks (all sizes)
Underwear (all sizes)

Operation Christmas Child (OCC)
Each year between October and November, we begin packing shoe boxes filled with precious gifts and lots of love as part of the OCC ministry.  Since it's inception in 1993, OCC has collected more than 68 million shoe box gifts and hand-delivered them to needy children in 145 countries.

This year in addition to preparing the shoeboxes, we have another exciting way to serve the Lord by volunteering in the Processing Center in Atlanta Georgia on December 4th & 5th.  Volunteers inspect and pack the shoe boxes and ready them for travel. It is a great time of fellowship and sharing. Registration begins on August 1st. If you are interested please email Jeannette Phillips at jpphil@tampabay.rr.com as soon as possible as spots will fill up quickly.  From there we will set up an orientation meeting to discuss the details of the trip.

Thursday, December 3rd - Travel to Atlanta
Friday, December 4th - Work in Processing Center
Saturday, December 5th - Work in Processing Center
Sunday, December 6th - Travel to Tampa

Thank you to all who serve so faithfully in worship ministry each and every week!  A new Worship Crew is being formed to help with set- up for worship services and various worship events.  There are opportunities to join existing teams, as well, such as A/V, choir, praise, drama, orchestra, ushers and greeters, and communion servers.  Please check out the new worship bulletin board in the hallway to get connected with worship ministry or contact Shannon Miller (shannon@harvesterumc.org).

Calling all Thespians!!!  Our drama team is up and running and we want you! If you want to share God's word through performance and have a great time doing it, consider joining the Harvester Drama Team. Please join us this Thursday at 7:00pm if interested, or email Jill Maeda at bmaeda@tampabay.rr.com.
Children's Ministry

Please come help in Sunday school.  Curriculum is provided and you will make a difference in the lives of our young people.  We still have open spots every Sunday in July and August.  Contact Jennifer Smith (jennifer@harvesterumc.org) to help.  Thank you!
Youth Ministry

IMPACT Informational Meeting, Tuesday, July 7th from 6:00 until 6:30: This meeting is for all the participants (adults and youth) attending this year's mission trip to Orlando on July 26th until July 29th.  Please plan on attending.  Please let Shari Dawson know if you will not be able to attend.

Youth Leadership/Parent Meeting, Tuesday, July 7th from 6:30 until 8:00:  This is the date for our next planning meeting for the youth leadership and parents.  We will be discussing plans for the remainder of the summer, finalizing free taco night details, and looking forward at ideas for the fall.

Wednesday, July 8th, 7:00 until 8:30 - Summer Youth Bible Study is open to all middle school and high school students. This week we will be working on one of the bible studies for the mission trip.  We will be looking at sections of 1 Corinthians and Nehemiah as we learn about 'Teamwork'!  Each week this group covers a biblical topic with lively discussions, related games, and treats (usually brownies).

Thursday, July 9th: Youth Work & Play Day - We will meet at the church at 8:45.  We will spend the morning helping out the Pasco County Transitional Kids group at Pine View Elementary (we will sort and organize and put together....basically whatever they need us to do).  Then we will get some lunch and then head to the Royal Bowling Alley on SR 41.  Parents can pick up their youth at 3:00 at the bowling alley.  Please bring $10 to cover the bowling and food; a completed and notarized Medical Release form; and a good attitude!  Let us know if you are planning to attend so we can make sure we have enough drivers and food!  You can email Shari Dawson directly at dawsonfamily4@verizon.net or sign-up on the youth bulletin board. PARENTS: Drivers are still needed for Thursday....if you can help out please let Shari know.

Sunday, July 12th:  4:30 Youth Drama Team Rehearsal; 5:00 - 6:00 Youth Band Rehearsal; 6:00 - 8:00 FREE TACO NIGHT.

FREE TACO NIGHT, Sunday, 7/12, from 6-8: This Sunday is a special night!  We are having a night of FREE tacos, music, drama, and discussion.  There will be a couple other youth groups us joining us for this evening.  Please invite a friend to come with you!  To help with the food - guys bring your favorite soda; girls bring a dessert; we will provide the tacos!

Dinner Help Needed:  For Sunday Night Youth (SNY), parents graciously prepare/provide dinner for the youth each week.  [Compensation is available to help offset the cost.]  We still have a few weeks where we need help with dinner.  Please sign up on the youth bulletin board if you are able to help out one week.  Contact Barbara Rodhouse (barbrodhouse@yahoo.com) if you need more information.
