News You Can Use: Stealth Health
Have you ever noticed that the CATCH program is really smart and progressive? For example, an article that recently appeared in Newsweek magazine, Stealth Health for Kids, describes some "new" techniques for helping kids make healthier choices in the school cafeteria. The article tells the story of cafeteria workers who asked children if they wanted fruit with their meal, and how the fruit consumption went from 40 to 70%.
Well, CATCH schools know all about these types of tactics because they've been advocated for years in the Eat Smart School Nutrition Program Guide. If you haven't looked through the guide in a while, please take some time to become reacquainted with simple, fun ways to help your students Eat Smart! |

Kudos to DeSmet & Hellgate
On March 26, we had the pleasure of visiting DeSmet School's cafeteria to see their kid-sized salad bar in action. How impressive! The cook and principal, Stacey Hollandsworth and Michael Syverson, have devised an efficient way for all of their K-8 students to go through the salad bar line and select a colorful variety of GO Foods for lunch. Kudos to all of DeSmet's students, faculty, staff, and administrators for eating smart!

Hellgate Elementary School's PTA hosted their annual CATCH Family Fun Night on April 6th. After serving a healthful dinner and conducting some business, the PTA turned the families over to us for a GO Activity and a Fun Food Fair. All of the parents and children played a rousing game of Dragon's Tail, which involved quite a bit of laughing. After the game, when everyone had cooled down, they taste-tested new GO Foods in our Fun Food Fair: star fruit, kefir, sunburst squash, spelt bread, and baked tofu. It was exciting to watch the older and younger family members taste these foods for the very first time. Thanks to parents Denise Zimmer and Shawna Duffy for inviting us to participate in Hellgate Elementary's CATCH Family Fun Night! |
