News You Can Use: The Home Team Advantage
CATCH's Home Team encourages schools to reach out to families with information and fun events to promote good nutrition and physical activity habits. Why? Because when families join the CATCH team, children and families alike have a better chance of learning and practicing healthy behaviors.
Two recent news articles drive this point home. USA Today advises that when it comes to families and physical activity, parents should join their kids in play and model how to have fun with exercise. "The children will learn from their parents, and the parents will learn from their children. More important, they will be together," said Dr. Robert Molina, a professor from the University of Texas - Austin.
UCLA researchers recently reported how parents' eating habits influence their teenagers. Not surprisingly, the researchers found that when parents eat fruits and vegetables, so do their teens. And when parents drink more soda, so do their teens!
Springtime is the perfect time for your school to rev up the CATCH Home Team. If you're looking for some creative ideas, please contact the Missoula CATCH office. |
