Flying Tigers Update MMI's extracurricular flight program continues in its success with partner Sanders Flight Training Center, Inc., a certified Cessna Pilot Center.
A dozen cadets are currently training to get their private pilot's license. On weekends, the group heads to Vaiden Field, 8 miles south of campus, for their in-flight training. The local airfield has proved an ideal area for training with its new runway and small volume of traffic. Ground school is administered online, through Sanders' state-of-the-art program.

A Day to Remember Stacy Coleman: Father, Soldier, Former Morgan's Raider
On November 10, LTC Mike Patronis, USAF '87 traveled to Marion from Texas to speak in the MMI Chapel and present the inaugural John Hunt Morgan Endowed Scholarship in memory of fellow alumnus COL Stacy Coleman (1963-2007). Coleman was instrumental in forming the scholarship along with fellow Morgan's Raiders, and it seemed fitting that the ceremony should be in his honor.
Members of the Patronis and Coleman family, including Stacy's wife LTC Debra Coleman and sons Hunt & Matt, attended the ceremony and met with the 2010 scholarship recipient, Cadet Joseph Edwards of Crystal Lake, Ill. A graduate of Fork Union Military Academy, Edwards is a member of the MMI wrestling team and is enrolled in the Early Commissioning Program.
Following the ceremony, our honored guests were treated to a luncheon with MMI President, Col. David J. Mollahan, USMC (Ret).

Cadets in the Spirit of Giving
MMI cadets gave back to the local community with two December projects sponsored by the Scabbard & Blade Society. The group collected approximately 80 used cell phones and media to send to the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization. Recycling these phones helps our deployed troops call home. Cell phone collection will continue on campus throughout 2011. Scabbard and Blade members also organized the annual U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive on campus. Collection boxes were filled with new toys from cadets, faculty/staff, and the local community. The gifts were distributed to needy children. Pictured: Cadets Brann, Hollis & Lee
