When it comes to men’s designer clothing, there’s a place that three generations of Omaha men have been going to for more than 70 years. Lindley Clothing, located at 132nd and Dodge Streets in the Linden Market, is the oldest men's designer clothing store in Omaha. According to third generation owner John Lindley, upscale designer sportswear is the store’s specialty.
John’s grandfather, Jack Lindley, opened the first store in Wahoo, Neb., in 1935. That store is still open today and is run by John’s brother, Mike Lindley. In 1960, Jack senior’s sons, Jack and Bill, decided to open a second store in Omaha at 132nd and L Streets where the store continued to carve a unique niche in the Omaha market. When John took over the family run business in 1988, he decided to move the store to a new, more convenient and upscale location at 132nd and Dodge Streets where the store is still located today. With the move, John also stepped up the quality of the clothing and introduced edgier, more contemporary styles. The change meshed perfectly with the emerging “dress casual” trend that was becoming popular in the professional world.
The store's dedicated group of customers is a result of quality designer clothing for a fair price combined with friendly customer service that includes complimentary tailoring, says John. The store carries brands such as St. Croix, Bigatch, Nat Nast and Remy leathers. You’ll also find a substantial collection of custom suits from Austin Reed and Jack Victor. Custom-made shirts is another service that draws a core group of customers. “Once they try it, they keep coming back because they love the way it fits,” he says.
When John needs dry cleaning services, he sends his clothing to Fashion Cleaners. "I can always depend on Fashion Cleaners to bring our clothes back looking like new,” he says. “They're reliable, do quality work and their free pick-up and delivery service makes doing business with them extremely convenient." |
