Don’t be fooled by the name. While Katina’s couture is named after owner Tina Wurth’s Greek name, it has little to do with her Greek heritage. As you step inside the couture store at 17010 Wright Plaza in the Shops of Legacy, you’ll immediately discover that this is not your typical Omaha designer store. Showcasing a west coast, LA influence, clothing racks display brands such as Sky, a brand popular among Hollywood circles, carried exclusively at Katina’s, as well as an edgier, funkier line of denim in brands such as Big Star and Miss Me that sport bold stitching, jewels and grommets. Katina’s also carries the Bejeweled line of tops, known for its Swarovski crystal embellishments, and 7 for All Mankind jeans, the industry leader in premium jeans. You’ll also find a unique selection of party-worthy and date-night tops, dresses, shoes and accessories.
“I’ve always been drawn to this edgier style,” says Wurth. “and felt there was an opening in Omaha’s market for a funkier, different look in clothing and accessories.” Wurth says the edgier style has found a mixed clientele of baby boomers looking for a more unique look in addition to women in their 20s and 30s.
To provide a broader appeal to the younger clientele as well as to men, Wurth recently opened Mesh with partner Courtney Smith. Located in the Shops of Legacy across from Katina’s, Mesh is a casual women’s and men’s designer clothing retailer that carries some of the same designer brands in addition to others. Designer brands include Big Star, Silver, Laguna Beach, 7 Diamond, Affliction and Fender.
“We’re quickly becoming Omaha’ denim destination for unique and premium denim brands,” says Smith. The store will introduce several lines of designer shoes in spring. Wurth says she recommends Fashion Cleaners for her highly-embellished line of clothing. “Fashion Cleaners is very couture-friendly,” she says. “When you send it there, you know it’s going to come back right.”
