Send Yourself to Camp

Lately, most local newspapers and magazines are highlighting summer camps for children. As I read through the different offerings, it gave me the idea that there should be summer camps for adults too. Wouldn't it be fun to take a week off to learn how to sing, act, or dance? What about archery, horseback riding, or sailing? Maybe you would enjoy a camp focusing on science, art, or film making.

My Google search did not find camps for adults in the Kansas City area so a class might have to do. If the idea of stretching your creative or athletic skills appeals to you, find a local class this summer that would tickle your interest. To get you started, you might want to check out the following:

Kansas City Art Institute
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
The Writers Place
Johnson County Community College
Metropolitan Community Colleges
Communiversity

Don't forget your city and county parks and recreation department offers classes and activities too. You might also check out craft stores, gyms, stables, and your local Y.

Self Care is about the whole person and the whole year. Make camp not just for kids this summer. Design your own and have some fun!
