Welcome LM XVLeadership Macomb XV officially started September 21st. We have an extraordinary class of forty participants. Our first two days focused on Community Assets, and Issues and Government. New this year was a narrated bus tour of Macomb County with stops at Brownies for lunch and Westview Orchards for cider and donuts.  | |

Macomb Literacy Partners
Macomb Literacy Partners (MLP) is excited to announce that they have been selected as a Reading Works' 2012 adult literacy partner.
Reading Works is a new nonprofit in Detroit dedicated to raising the level of adult literacy in our community.
With the support that Reading Works will bring, MLP hopes to expand their resources in order to reach more adult learners in need. Reading Works will help open the door to new opportunities for MLP and their learners.
Ken Lampar, newly appointed Director for MLP will be one of our speakers on Education Day, October 19th.

Zombies Invade Mount Clemens
Saturday, October 22, 2011
Mount Clemens is expected to be crawling with the living dead Saturday, October 22, 2011, as the Anton Art Center hosts the First Annual Macomb County Zombie Walk.
The walk will begin at the Anton Art Center at 10 pm. Zombies will be led by a hearse and a kazoo corpse band as they stagger along Macomb Place. Participants must be in costume and remain in character as zombies for the duration of the walk. At the conclusion of the Zombie Walk, three Best Zombies will be awarded prizes.
Walkers must purchase a wristband earlier in the evening at the Anton Art Center. Adult wristbands for those 21 and older cost $5 and can be redeemed at a participating bar or restaurant for a Zombie Drink Special. Wristbands for those ages 15-20 cost $3.
The Zombie Walk is a fundraiser for the Anton Art Center.
Friday, October 21, there will be a free Zombie Makeup Workshop. The workshop will be held at 7 pm at Used on New Books, 36 New Street in downtown Mount Clemens. No RSVP is necessary.

Issues Call for Board of Director Applicants
The Macomb Homeless Coalition issues a call for applicants for nomination to its Board of Directors for 2012. The Coalition is seeking qualified individuals who seek to serve the community and possess skills in the following areas:
-Public Relations -Municipal Management
-Non-Profit Fundraising -Financial Advising/Management
-Health Care Services -Community Representation
The function of the Board of Directors is to set policy and oversee the assets and financial affairs for the Macomb Homeless Coalition. The Board of Directors acts as the primary decision making body for the Macomb County Continuum of Care. Membership on the Board will allow individuals who seek to serve a unique perspective on the needs of the community and the resources in place to assist our County residents who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

As the Continuum of Care system for Macomb County, the goal of the Coalition is to help the County's homeless citizen's move from the streets to homes of their own.

"Where Do You See Beauty" Art Show
Starkweather Art Center, 219 N. Main Street Romeo, Michigan Fri., November 11, 2011 from 6-9:00 pm Where do you see beauty? We want to know! Show everyone where you see beauty to benefit A Beautiful Me™ and Starkweather Arts Center. This fundraising event will take place Friday, November 11, 2011 beginning with a red carpet kick-off Avant Garde Hair & Make-Up Show at 5:30 pm in Romeo and continue from 6-9pm showcasing works of art by local artists at Starkweather Art Center.
"Where Do YOU See Beauty? Art Show" is open to ALL artists of ALL ages. Original works in ANY medium are eligible by answering the statement "I see beauty in . . . !"
Entry forms are available online at www.StarkweatherArts.com or www.ABeautifulMe.com and deadline has been extended until Friday, October 21, 2011.
