An Ambassador for Education

Pam Kellett, Assistant Vice President of Outreach, Oakland University

Macomb LM IX Graduate

Pam Kellett not only believes in the value of higher education, she could be the poster child for it!  While most of us struggle to juggle work, home, kids, relationships, Pam, a married Pam Kellettmother of five, recently  completed her Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership with a focus in Higher Education. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and a Master's in Adult Learning. It is obvious that she is passionate about education.

Pam grew up in the upper Peninsula of Michigan and spent 1990-1995 in Alabama prior to moving to Macomb County. She started out working for a computer company in Mt.Clemens that  focused on software for the health care industry. The company was eventually bought out and Pam landed at the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD).Her role was to build programs for the MISD site. She worked her way up the ranks and is presently the Assistant Vice President of Outreach for Oakland University-Macomb.Her focus is on helping transfer students and adults returning to college.

She notes that "74% of Macomb County residents have never completed college. Access is a huge issue to a four year education in Macomb County. In a bad economy, education always goes up. Many people return to school to learn new skills. My job is to match County needs with educational programming at a convenient location and an affordable price."

A graduate of  LM IX , Pam  says this about her experience,  "I found Leadershp Macomb to be an opportunity to work with people with similar ideas about improving Macomb County.  I wanted to learn as much as I could, so that I could be a better ambassador for the County."

She is an excellent ambassador!  She is a member of AERA - the American Education Research Association, ASHE - the Association for the study of Higher Education, the ASCD - American Society of Curriculum Development.  If that weren't enough, she also volunteers for Winning Futures, a local organization that mentors high school students.

Congratulations,  on your many accomplishments (especially completing your Doctorate), Pam, or, more correctly, Dr. Kellett!
