"Exchange" Program
Because Leadership is not limited by County lines, Leadership Macomb and Leadership Oakland have joined together to establish an "exchange" program. What this means is that any LM graduate interested in participating in Leadership Oakland will receive a $200 discount on their tuition. And, any Leadership Oakland graduate interested in applying to Leadership Macomb will get the same $200 discount. This is effective immediately so spread the word! Leadership Macomb Graduates that are interested in participating in leadership Oakland can contact Chris Sharer at cscharrer@leadershipoakland.com. Leadership Oakland graduates interested in participating in Leadership Macomb can contact Karen Smith at smithkj@macomb.edu. |
 Rick Troy - LM I
Rick Troy (LM I) is very passionate about his work and about the justice system as a whole. He is the Executive Director of the Macomb County Bar Association (MCBA). The Association currently is the third largest voluntary Bar in the State with 1,400 members. The MCBA offers member discounts, continuing legal education seminars, a lawyer referral service, networking and referral opportunities and much more. They pride themselves on serving their members, providing them with educational opportunities and serving as an advocacy group for the law profession. Rick states, "It is a fact that the legal profession, and lawyers in particular, are the subject of many jokes, yet when freedoms are at stake, and someone needs help in holding up constitutional rights, it is a different story. Then everyone values a good lawyer."
Rick is also the Executive Director of the Macomb County Bar Foundation (MCBF), which is the charitable affiliate of the Macomb County Bar Association and is a reflection of the Macomb County legal community's 100 years of public service and civic involvement. The Foundation provides thousands of dollars in scholarships each year for individuals interested in law careers.
Although it's been 14 years since Rick went through the Leadership Macomb program, he feels the relationships created through Leadership Macomb have been beneficial in many ways. "There is a long term fabric created through Leadership Macomb that can be very valuable and worthwhile....it was kind of like social media, before social media." He explains. He still maintains contact with several of his LM I classmates.
If he could change one thing about the current justice system, Rick says that, "The system would work better for all if people owned their conflict and owned their solutions."
