| Welcome Leadership Macomb XIII
Leadership Macomb XIII officially started September 16th. We have an extraordinary class of thirty-seven participants who learned about Community Assets and Local Government in September. Arts and Culture Day is planned for October 21st. |
| Be Counted in 2010
The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years.
We are closing in on the 2010 Census, an enormous undertaking to count everyone residing in the United States by April 1, 2010.
The Census is important to everyone because it helps determine the distribution of more than $300 billion annually of government funding for critical community services. It generates thousands of jobs across the country and impacts our voice in Congress.
As leaders in Macomb County, we can help by raising awareness of the upcoming Census and by encouraging participation in this historic event.
The 2010 Census questionnaire is quick, easy and confidential. There are only 10 questions on the questionnaire, making it one of the shortest in history. The data collected is, by law, completely confidential and is not shared with anyone, including other federal agencies or law enforcement entities.
The Census timeline is as follows:
Fall 2009: Recruitment begins for census takers needed for peak
workload in 2010. February - March 2010: Census questionnaires are mailed or
delivered to households. April 1, 2010: Census Day April - July 2010: Census takers visit households that did not
return a questionnaire by mail. December 2010: By law, Census Bureau delivers population counts
to President for apportionment. March 2011: By law, Census Bureau completes delivery of
redistricting data to states
The class of LM XIII learned how the Census affects Macomb County during "Government" day in September. Our guest speaker was Terry Ann Hood-Campion. If you'd like further information regarding the Census, please contact Terry Ann Hood-Campion at the U.S. Census Bureau, 313-396-5200 or terry.a.hood.campion@census.gov | |
