Artists Talk - Alexandra Demenkova
'Social Photograhy as Art: the Case of Russia'
Thursday 19th February, 7pm. Free.

Alexandra Demenkova imageDemenkova (b.1980) has been a documentary photographer since 2004. She focuses on social issues of everyday life, ranging from the homeless, migrant workers, from psychiatric institutions to ropewalkers, circus and street artists. She was a prizewinner of the Best Photo Correspondent of the Year (St.Petersburg, 2004-2006) including the Grand Prix in 2006. She is currently a resident artist at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, the Netherlands.

Presented in association with The Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies (CRCEES).

Book Launch: Praktika - Socially Engaged Art Practice
Friday 20th February, 7pm - Free

Praktika Booklet CoverLimited edition book which documents the Critical Workshop on Socially Engaged Art Practice which was held in Huntly in 2008 - conceived by David Harding and Rosie Gibson, in collaboration with Claudia Zeiske of Deveron Arts. As an introduction to this launch, there will be a special and rare screening of a documentary on David Harding's early work as a 'town artist'. Several of the artists will be in attendance. The book is available for free only at the launch events.

The book PRAKTIKA includes a synopsis of each of the 12 attending artists projects and a reflective essay by Nuno Sacramento.

Artist Merlyn Riggs will bring her peripatetic tea room on the occasion of this event.
