Baseball and Softball Clinics:

Baseball/Softball Fielding Clinic
Saturday, October 8, 2011
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
$25 per person

Students will learn and sharpen basic fielding fundamentals and then move onto more intermediate and advanced skill-work, including backhand drills, forehand drills, short hops, long hops, double plays, making tags, and learn how to consistently field "thru the ball" which is vital to being a solid infielder. Outfield ground balls, fly balls, and getting the proper approach to the ball will also be covered. All students will make numerous throws from basic fielding positions and off-balance. Our step-by-step approach will have your child ready to play with confidence at the next level.

Baseball/Softball Throwing and Accuracy Clinic
Saturday, October 15, 2011
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
$25 per person

Description  When kids are taught to throw, often the instruction is watered down into just a couple of steps. The act of throwing a baseball is not that simple. Throwing requires the entire body to work together in order to throw the ball accurately and to put something on it.

All positions on the field require the ability to throw the ball accurately. Good throwing mechanics will enable you to make plays. This clinic will prepare you to strive to improve your accuracy.

Is your child part of a baseball team?  Have your coach contact us to lock into a day/time for your team to use our indoor facility and batting cages.  Speed and agility classes also available at a special team rate!

If you haven't seen Athletic Edge, please stop by. We are right across the way from ABK. 8,000 square feet of artificial turf, weight training equipment, bikes, ellipticals and treadmills. Don't forget parents, you can use the facility too! Ask how at the front desk!

Our program is dedicated to Youth Fitness and Sports Performance. Whether looking to stay fit and healthy or enhance your game-playing ability, the Athletic Edge Facility and our Youth Fitness Specialist Coaches are here to help.

How Do I Start?

All new students start with a FREE Athletic Edge trial/assessment. The assessment is based around the 5 Pillars of ABK's LTAD model and help our youth training specialist determine what program and classes are best suited for them based on their development and goals. We also use the assessment as a starting point to monitor their progress and is used as a comparison for future assessments as they progress in their classes.  The assessment time also allows you to meet the instructors, see them interact with your child and ask any additional questions.
Our "Game Speed" clinic on September 24th was a blast. Athletes worked on reaction time, speed and agility drills to help in their sports. We also did some video analysis where they had a chance watch their 20 yard sprint technique! Great job athletes

Next testing is October 7th, 2011. Remember students, if the instructors have cleared you for your test to fully complete your letter of intent to promote. Parents: please complete your questions located at the bottom of the form.

Students, if you are having trouble with your belt, please visit the website How to Tie Your Belt to see a tutorial video helping you with the tying process. It is important to have your belt tied when you step on the floor.

Remember, sparring is Tuesday this month. We'd like all students to bring their sparring gear to each class as it will be used for bag drills. It also gives them practice in putting it on and learning to punch and kick with the gear on.

Don't forget your 5 minutes of practice each night. Review your forms, one-step's, self-defense, Palgue forms and weapons if you have them!

Last but certainly not least, mark your calendars for November 12th! This is our next Black Belt test. The eligible candidates have been working very hard and we'd like you to share in the experience. The test will start at 1:00pm on the gym floor. We also have 3 instructors testing for both 2nd and 3rd degree black belt! You'll see Palgue Forms, Weapons, Sparring, Breaking demonstrations, Grappling among many others. Great job students and Instructors!
