Hi all! Our weather has been so unusual. The end of January it was so warm and dry that Nancy and Dallas turned on the irrigation system and watered all the gardens. It's good they drained the system right away, for suddenly the temperature changed dramatically. Guess you heard about the cold weather we had in New Mexico in the beginning of February. It has never been this cold - many nights last week it was below zero - burr! The mountain has been so beautiful - it was covered with snow from top to bottom. Thank heavens Nancy and Dallas have been feeding us- but it gets so annoying when the thrashers swoop in and get the hamburger before we do! They put cracked corn out for the quail and bunnies as well as sunflowers seeds for our little bird friends. In spite of the cold weather, spring must be around the corner. Last week I saw some daffodil leaves poking up through the ground by the front gate and the lilac in the courtyard is full of fat green buds. Speaking of Spring- why don't you think about coming to Corrales for the Studio Art tour on April 30 and May 1 and the Garden Tour on Sunday, June 5!! It was so beautiful last year- there are 7 different gardens on the tour this year. |

Greetings!
On Wednesday, January 19, 2011, we received an e-mail from TripAdvisor which announced the 2011 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards. The Top 10 Bed and Breakfasts in the United States were recognized in this awards program. Much to our surprise and absolute delight, the Chocolate Turtle B&B was included on this list. As stated in the release from TripAdvisor, "the Travelers' Choice winners are based on millions of real and unbiased reviews and opinions about hotels and B&Bs on tribadvisor.com"
As we reflected on this award, we realized that this honor is due to many of you who took the time to so thoughtfully write the reviews,. During the past 6+ years, in has been so rewarding to read the comments you have posted on TripAdvisor, Bedandbreakfast.com and in the notebooks in our rooms.
Thank you for taking the time to post reviews and share your experiences with other travelers. Since you were such an integral player in this award, we wanted to share this great news with you.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2011!
Fondly,
Nancy & Dallas |

Veterans' Day
As you may have seen in the media, to thank our veterans and active duty service people, in 2008 a small B&B in West Virginia, Guillum House, started a B&Bs for Vets program. In 2010 on Veterans' Day Eve, over 900 Bed and Breakfasts across the country offered active and retired military a free night at a B&B. Eleven B&Bs in New Mexico participated. We were honored to host veterans/active duty service people in our four rooms.
On New Year's eve afternoon, we received a call from one of the couples who stayed with us for Veterans' Day and they asked if we were going to be home, for they had something for us. Their "something" blew us away. SMSgt Jody Martinez and his wife presented us with a flag that was part of Operation New Dawn. The flag was flown over Iraq on November 25, 2010 during a Special Operations Combat Mission in direct support of Operation New Dawn.

The certificate they presented with the flag stated, "This Flag is presented to the Chocolate Turtle Bed and Breakfast, Dallas and Nancy Renner, as a symbol of the Sovereign Power of the United States of America and the unshakeable resolve to keep our country safe."
What a way to end 2010!!! It was our honor and privilege to have the Veterans with us for Veterans' Day. The flag was the icing on the cake. |
Corrales in Sunset Magazine
Did you see the great article in the January 2011 issue of Sunset Magazine--New Mexico day trip Corrales? We were so excited to see the 2 page article on Corrales that starts on page 19, close to the front of this nationally distributed magazine. It included information on the Milagro Winery, Hanselmann's Pottery, the Winter Growers' Market, Hannah and Nate's Market Cafe, Et Cetera, Galeria de Corrales, Prized Possessions, Casa Vieja. Oh yes, the Chocolate Turtle was mentioned too.
If you can't get Sunset Magazine in your area (it's the issue with the pizza on the cover) read the entire article here. |
