Hi everyone!
The garden has been lush this year, the drip irrigation system installed last summer has provided water on a regular basis, and what a difference it has made! The hummingbirds have been enjoying all the blooms on the salvias.

Did you know that fall is the best time to plant perennials, trees and shrubs in New Mexico? Nancy has recently planted a number of perennials and, in early October, a dry river bed was crafted just ouside the window of the Sandia Room.
Corrales Garden Tour

Since the area is in partial shade
she planted shade loving plants including hostas, lamium, ferns and columbine along the edge of the bed (this brought back memories of her shade garden in Baltimore). Guests staying in the Sandia Room will enjoy the new look outside their window.

For decoration, Nancy hung an old chile ristra on the wagon out back. Can you believe that some of my silly bunny friends chewed all the dried red chile pods?
One even climbed up on the wagon axle to chew the pods he could not reach from the gournd. Looks like they are true New Mexico bunnies that like "hot stuff."

Awards & Recognitions!

As part of their Duke City Dozen Awards, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce selected the Chocolate Turtle B&B to receive the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. The award recognizes a home-based business that has made improvements to the home-based business climate. On September 22, our inn-sitters and friends who have played a significant role in the Turtle's development joined us for the presentation and celebration!

The May issue of New Mexico Magazine had a full page article on the Chocolate Turtle-what a thrill! To our delight, many new guests have learned about us from the article.

Greetings!

Guests enjoying the Balloon FiestaIn spite of the economy, it's been a busy year at the Turtle. Lots of guests have continued to enjoy the ever changing Sandia Mountains and the antics of the local wildlife. The Road Runners were on the nest three times! It is so amazing to watch them launch their offspring once they reach maturity. Balloon Fiesta was the best ever!  The weather was amazing, much warmer than usual and the balloons were able to fly every morning. Two mornings, a number of balloons flew over the Turtle, a real thrill for our guests.  By the way, if you are interested in attending the Balloon Fiesta in 2011, you may want to check your calendars and give us a call--about half of the rooms are already reserved.

Garden Tour a Success!

Enjoying the Garden TourThe first annual Corrales Garden Tour was an amazing success. Since this was the "first," the planners hoped to sell 250 tickets. In spite of the unusually hot weather, almost 1000 tickets were sold. (Dallas made hundreds of mini scones and chocolate chip cookies to serve the visitors at the Turtle). The proceeds from the tour will be used for a landscaping project along Corrales Road.
