Running with Romeo |
Hi folks,
The Baby(ies) arrived!! (Not once, but twice). We are just starting to allow our little one(s) to come out in public and we are doing such a good job of hiding him(them) Nancy and Dallas don't know how many offspring we had. (We had 2 little ones the first time). It does get tiring running back and forth to the porch to get the food- some days we are there 10 or 12 times because our little one(s) is/are so hungry and growing so fast. Summer is coming to Corrales!!. Although the fruit trees budded out, a late frost zapped all of them, much to Nancy's dismay.. The vegetable garden is lush and full of tomatoes, herbs, squash, zinnias and cosmos. The new irrigation system is almost completed. Only a few more lines to be run. Nancy is really excited- she found a Blue Mist Spirea named Longwood. Turns out it was developed at Longwood Gardens, a DuPont estate near Kennett Square, Pa. where she worked on the grounds two summers when she was in college. Surprising that a plant developed in the lush rolling hills of Pennsylvania could thrive in the dessert.
Gotta go - time to feed the little ones. See you soon!

Exciting
News! |
At the New Mexico Govenor's Conference on Tourism, the Chocolate Turtle's website received the award for the best website. While appearance of the website was important, the main criteria for the award was the impact it had on our business. Also, during May and June, Trip Advisor named the Chocolate Turtle the best bed and breakfast in New Mexico. We are delighted and humbled to say the least.

Not Cutting Back on Ameneties |
While we continue to hear in the news that some hotels are cutting back, we want to assure you that the Chocolate Turtle continues to offer all the amenities that you are accustomed to- plus more. Free water, sodas, snacks and tea are always available. Freshly baked cookies are served each afternoon. The Keurig coffer maker brews individual cups of gourmet regular and decaf coffees on demand throughout the afternoon and evening. Fresh flowers are in your bedroom as well as the great room and breakfast room.

Good News! |
Casa Vieja has reopened under new ownership!! A couple - both professionally trained chefs - from Santa Fe are offering a scrumptious menu - most dishes have a unique New Mexico flair. We, and our friends, have been delighted with the food and the service on our recent visits.

What's Happening at the Turtle?
While most of New Mexico is not known for its green, the Turtle is following a trend among B&B's to "Go Green". "Green activities" at the Turtle includes:
- New -washer (uses less water) and dryer -both with "energy star" ratings
- Recycling bins in the breakfast room (found a new location that will take glass too!)
- Compact light bulbs wherever they will fit (most of the fixtures)
- Cushy pads under all the area rugs are made from recycled carpet
- Clear Light (locally made) bath products in 17 oz bottles- less waste then with the individual size bottles.
- Rain Barrels under three canales capture rain water and overflow from the evaporative coolers- of course the water is used on the garden and house plants!

The remodel is complete! The new Saltillo Tile in hallways and bedrooms enhances the southwest feel at the Turtle- looks as if it's always been here! Persian area rugs are scattered throughout the bedrooms - to keep toes toasty warm while enabling our guests to enjoy the beauty of the tile. New granite top vanities were added to two bathrooms. The taller vanity in the Roadrunner is complimented with a turquoise framed mirror made from a recycled window (complimenting the headboard made from a 1940's New Mexico screen door.) The white vanity in the Bunny room provides additional countertop space for toiletry articles.
