Solo Exhibition: DON AXLEROAD woodcuts, paintings and the Minotaur's Labyrinth
A ROMP THROUGH GREEK MYTHOLOGY: THE MINOTAUR AND OTHER MYTHOLOGICAL BEASTS
SEPTEMBER 19 - OCTOBER 24, 2009
Closing Reception:Saturday, October 24th at 2pm with Katherine Adamenko and Company in an improvisational performance of the Minotaur Escaping the Labyrinth, using mask faces created by the exhibition's woodcut artist, Don Axleroad.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: The Minotaur Story is just one of many examples of ancient Greek mythology which have long fascinated award winning artist Don Axleroad. He believes that the epic figures of mythology, remind us of the capriciousness of man and nature as they relate to the challenges we face today, ranging from war and vengeance to the diseases of the aging such as Alzheimer's. He draws the parallel that today, as in ancient mythology, bad things happen to good people - events over which they have no control.
Don Axleroad and his Minotaur (worn by Chris Wiesenhahn), and Arle Sklar-Weinstein, Curator and Designer of this exhibition as well as Gallery Director.
Don's woodcuts behind the Marco Duo who provided a lively ambiance to the fun of children finding their way through the labyrinth.

Community Outreach
Remembering the highlights.....
Yonkers Riverfest 2009
The Blue Door Artist Association tent at RiverFest 2009 was a great success due to the hard work of our volunteers this year. Shelia the incredible mask-maker, Barbara King, Bill Allen, Donna Faranda and Leslie Miller all braved the wet weather and worked like crazy to keep the kids in masks. The kids and some adults made over 100 masks in a five-hour period. It was a huge mess and everyone had a great time making some really cool masks with feathers, sequins and lots of color - next year we may stay away from paint, the kids really need one on one attention with that and lots of coaching about painting skills- a great idea for a future project.
Summer Fun: Explorations in Clay
Community Gallery @ BDG celebrated its closing day with a one day exhibition for the Clay program for youth held throughout the summer and a free clay workshop at the gallery. Youth from Westhab and the local community created fantasy animals, portraits and much more showcasing their artistic expression and imagination.

NOTE of CLARIFICATION From the Director of BLUE DOOR GALLERY, Arlé Sklar-Weinstein To: all current and future BDAA Members. Some recent queries and feedback from our "BLUE DOOR" news leads me to clarify some apparent confusion. The Blue Door Artist Association, led by Luis Perelman, Bob Schor and others, has many projects under its auspice, including Public Art installations, Educational programs, and Exhibitions for its members at the Yonkers Riverview Library and other ad hoc venues, along with special exhibitions of the COMMUNITY GALLERY@BDG during July and August each year. Blue Door Gallery, while a major project of the BDAA, operates as a separate entity without its own Members Roster. Each exhibition that is within Blue Door Gallery's space is either JURIED, CURATED or INVITATIONAL and is supported by the artists in each of these exhibitions. There are many opportunities for BDAA Members to exhibit at Blue Door Gallery. The major opportunity is being eligible to be juried into the Annual BDAA JURIED MEMBERS. The call and prospectus, available to all artists, is on the web site www.bluedoorgallery.org. This year, for the BDG Second Annual, the deadline is Dec 2nd. All artists must be current members (joining now for 2010 will be honored through to Dec 2010) Entries are validated with membership fee to the Blue Door Artist Association of $40 and Entry fee to Blue Door Gallery of $35. Of course, all artists, including valued BDAA members, are invited to follow Blue Door Gallery's Artists Calls and submit to every exhibition that seems just right for their work. Watch for the upcoming SMALL GEMS: ARTS for GIVING Dec 12, 2009 to Jan 2, 2011 with a Nov 11th Deadline. Your interest in Blue Door Gallery and its continuing (amazing) adventure is hugely appreciated. Any questions? Please e-mail info@bluedoorgallery.org
