On The Radio

Alan On ESPN Radio

This past Saturday, Wilderness North President, Alan Cheeseman was interviewed by Chauncey Nizioli, host of ESPN Chicago's Great Outdoors broadcast.

In the call, Chauncey was "on line" at the Wilderenss North website, and commented on the many outpost cabin and lodge choices we offer in Ontario.

He also focused in on our commitment to Project Healing Waters, and our upcoming 4th annual event scheduled for July 7th through the 12th  ... up at Miminiska Lodge on the Albany River.

If you would like to listen in to the interview, click here, and turn your speakers up on your computer.

And thanks to Chauncey for his interest in Ontario on behalf of outdoor lovers throughout the Chicagoland area.

Let's Catch Up !
...by Alan CheesemanAlan2009YCX

Canadian Flag
We are now officially 82 days from opening our 2011 guest season.
              So let's catch up.
First...we have had snow...boy have we had snow. That's good. Lake levels should be up - giving safe access to lodges and cabins for our planes, and boat access to those inlets and back bays that anglers love to fish in early spring. We also know that with the very cold weather we have had the lakes are frozen deep, and our fingers are crossed for "ice out" in time for our May 22nd opening.

New Guest Services:

This year we are relocating our guest welcome center from Waweig Lake near Armstrong to Thunder Bay. Our arriving guests will receive all final trip planning and processing at our renovated headquarters, gift shop, and float plane hangar here in Thunder Bay.

On their arrival evening, guests will stay at a hotel of their choice in Thunder Bay (since our Waweig base camp will no longer be an option for overnight  accommodations). We have negotiated special discounted rates at several area hotels. Your trip planner can help you with reservations.

Early the next morning guests will get on board our
private motor coach shuttle service to our float plane dock on Mackenzie Lake (near Armstrong.)Wilderenss North Motor Coach

We are providing this very comfortable shuttle at

no charge to our gue
sts. Guests save the cost of 300 miles of driving and for those who arrive by commercial airlines, this service completely eliminates the expense of a rental car or paid shuttle service. The motor coach is equipped with satellite phone, and other safety features for remote travel.

Improved Destinations: Last fall - before the winter arrived - we spent considerable time constructing new docks on Ogoki Lake, and a complete new patio decking at Miminiska Lodge. Our plans are to get into other locations with repairs and renovations in early spring - trusting the ice is out on time.

Special Offer:  It's our pleasure to announce that we are NOT increasing prices for the third consecutive year. And for those who are yet to book, we are offering a $100 bonus in the form of "WilderBucks" ... the coupon below has the details.

Business is good...we are ahead of our 2010 bookings and reservations and we are excited about the arrival of spring and guests.

I always value your comments and questions. Send them to me by clicking here or call at 888 465 3474.

Hey Joe - What's Cookin'?

I'll Tell You What's Cookin'!

...by Joe Pichey

As many of you know, I have two passions when it comes to the great outdoors.  Fishing of course...PLUS I love to fire up the backyard BBQ and tell stories about "the one that got away," while sharing a cold one with buddies.

After many failed attempts at ribs, brisket and other "hunks of meat," I met Konrad Haskins at his award winning BBQ school. Konrad is a grand champion pitmaster and an outdoors enthusiast. And here's the good news. We have decided to invite him up to Ontario for our first annual  "BBQ'ING in the Boreal" at Striker's Point Lodge from July 12-17, 2011. Konrad will also be cooking for our soldiers at Project Healing Waters July 7-11th. His gift to the project.

Konrad has been featured on TV, Food NetworBBQ Photos strikers Point Lodgek, radio and newspapers including the Wall Street Journal. Konrad's "BBQ INSTITUTE" teaches students the simple and repeatable art and science of  championship BBQ. Our summer event will focus on ribs (both baby back and spares), brisket, pork butt, pork loin and chicken. In addition, guests will learn the money saving result of educated meat buying, making their own rubs and sauces and how to "get it right" every time.

All of this and great fishing in Ontario's Boreal Forest Wilderness? What could be better? The classes will be taught daily during a shore lunch so that guests can still enjoy countless hours on the water. When they come in for dinner, the finished BBQ will be waiting. Yum Yum.  So gather your fishing rods and BBQ tongs and get ready for a delicious time. Okay fine... we'll provide the tongs.
