Greetings!

Summer is in full swing here in New England. What's on my summer fun list?  Day trips to the beach, time at our family cabin, mini-golf, ice cream, and some time off.

In between the fun and the work with my fabulous clients, I've been stealing a half-hour here and there to "lighten up" my home, especially in the attic and basement. Just getting out the easy things (empty boxes, clothes to donate, things that don't work anymore) can make a big difference.

Even if organizing isn't on your to do list, check out my tips for a quick but "key" organizing project that anyone can do this summer.

Enjoy!

LightenLighten Up: Now IS the Time to Give Your Home Some Breathing Room

This time of year things get a little more relaxed around my house, we head out on vacation, and enjoy the weekends.

I also invariably find myself seeing what I can get rid of in the attic and basement. It's time to "lighten up" the stuff we've amassed over the winter. Give yourself some breathing room, and spend an hour de-cluttering

Need ideas to get rid of the stuff? Check out my recent posts on the That's Neat! BlogTips for Tag Sales and Getting Rid of Your Clutter...for FREE.

KeyKeys to Success

Have you ever paniced when you couldn't find your keys? It's happened to all of us (myself included) and can be a terrible feeling.

Take a few moments this week to organize your keys: car keys, house keys, neighbor's keys, or whatever other keys you have.

Follow these steps to success:

  1. Put the keys you use every day in the same spot! Use a bowl, basket, or key hook, and get in the habit of putting your keys there every day. Yes: same spot, every day. When I can't find my keys it's because they aren't on the key hook. Below is a photo of the key hook by my main door. my keys
  2. If you have other random keys around the house, gather them up, and figure out what they are for. Do they unlock the basement door, or your neighbor's house? A file cabinet, or the car you owned 20 years ago? Purge what you can.
  3. Once you know what the keys are for, label them! I like to use color coded key tags with a spot where you can write what the key is for.
  4. For your last step, find a container or drawer to store the less-used keys. I keep mine in a basket on a closet shelf. One of my clients uses a beautiful ceramic jar in her dining room - it's decorative and no one knows keys are inside.
