History Behind Honeywell's MICRO SWITCH™
| |

The name MICRO SWITCH™ is the most recognized trademark of Honeywell. Everyone who has worked with switches, has at one time or another, required the use of a MICRO SWITCH™.
The MICRO SWITCH™ dates back to as far as 1932. The first precision snap-action basic switch was invented by Peter McGall, who was an employee of Burgess Battery Company at the time. It was developed to meet close-tolerance switching requirements for a chicken brooder. Having secured an order for 10,000 chicken brooders in 1932, Dr. Charles F. Burgess, owner of the C. F. Burgess Laboratories, Inc. of Madison Wisconsin, assigned one of his mechanics, Philip K. Gall, to develop a switch specifically for the close-tolerance requirements of a chicken brooder. Gall invented the first precision snap-action basic switch, which was quickly adapted for other applications.
In 1943, the V3 switch was named to represent Victory in Europe, Victory in Asia, and a Victory for MICRO SWITCH™ products. The first class postage stamp at the time was an eagle with outspread wings in the form of a "V". The cost was 3 cents. The V3 and postage size stamp of the switch seemed to go together, so the V3 it became.
1950 - MICRO SWITCH™ corporation was purchased by Honeywell, but retained its identity as an industry leader for solid-state and electromechanical switches, sensors and manual controls.
1952 - The mercury switch line was put in place, forming the manufacturing foundation of the critical component for Honeywell famous round thermostats.
Today, almost 80 years later, the MICRO SWITCH™ product is still sold throughout the world under the Honeywell banner. Employed in many critical applications ranging from landing gear position sensing for aircrafts to the switch that turns on your oven light. Today, Honeywell manufactures over 120 million MICRO SWITCH™ components each year.

NEW! Elobau Launches New Programmable Machine Safety Controller
| |

The NEW "eloProg" from Elobau offer a modular and flexible safety solution
The modular safety system, eloProg, monitors and evaluates signals of machine safety applications on machines and in production facilities. The flexible configuration allows the inputs to be used for a range of functions, e.g., for a 2-hand control or to connect an emergency stop button. The eloProg base module can be combined in multiple configurations with other modules to extend the inputs or outputs. For an easy integration into the plant control, fieldbus modules Profibus, CANopen or DeviceNet are available for diagnostics and monitoring.
The base module can be operated as a safety controller without any additional modules. When using the additional slave modules, the base module can be extended to up to 72 safety inputs with a total of 8 OSSD (Output Signal Switching Device) outputs. It is very easy to transfer the function configuration stored on the base module to a replacement unit using a memory card. The configuration software supplied is intuitive and validates the safety function configured.

High Temperature Electronics from Honeywell
| |

Honeywell's High Temperature Electronics Operate up t o 225°C for 5 years
Sensor Instrumentation
Several HTMOS products are useful for sensor instrumentation in extreme temperature environments. Honeywell HT1104 Quad Operational Amplifier is an excellent choice for amplifying/scaling a variety of small output sensor signals such as pressure strain gauges (0-30mV full scale), temperature sensors, LVDT's and proximity sensors. If several sensor signals are required in your system, the low leakageHT1204 Quag Analog Switch or 16:1 or 8:2 Multiplexors (Ht506/HT507) may be used to gate sensor signals through a common signal conditioning block. Applications with even the smaller sensor signal outputs such as ultra high temperature photo-diodes or accelerometers may require the extremely low leakage (a few pA @ 250°C) of the HT1104Z high impedance Quad Operational Amplifier.
Down Hole Petroleum and Geothermal Production
HTMOS products are being used in a number of downhole applications including permanent monitoring, intelligent completions, measurement while drilling control and data acquisition systems. The extremely low leakage and bullet proof reliability of the HT1204 Quad Analog Switch and HT1104 Quad Op Amp make them an obvious choice for next generation data logging designs. The broad versatility, computing power, and dependable long-term reliability of the HT83C51 Microcontroller, HT6256 SRAM, and the HT2000 Gate Array make them enabling components for new designs pursuing state-of-the-art high temperature performance for permanent well installations or drill control solutions. Applicable products include: Ceramic Packaged HT1104, HT1204, HT83C51, HT6256, HT2000 and Multi-Chip Modules.
Distributed Turbine Engine Controls
HTMOS products are ideal for distributed aircraft and ground based turbine engine control applications including remote pressure transducer communication bus interfaces, digitally networked actuator controls and Full Authority Digital Engine Controllers (FADECs) that have to operate in "hot" environments. The computing power of our HT83C51 Microcontroller and the guaranteed data retention of our HT6256 SRAM make them critical components. Our HTPLREG provides a highly stable voltage regulator function to step down typical engine supply voltage to +5 volts. Our proven capability to engineer customized High Temperature Multi-Chip-Modules (MCM) provides an ultra reliable, miniaturized package for you. Together, our HTMOS products and MCM packaging enable new distributed control systems that must continuously operate for up to 20,000 hours at temperature. Applicable products Include: Ceramic packaged HT83C51, HT6256, HTPLREG, HT2000 and Multi-Chip Modules.
Distributed Heavy Duty Engine Controls HTMOS products are ideal for distributed heavy engine controls in large diesel or internal combustion engines. Specific applications include cylinder pressure transducer output amplifiers and bus communication electronics, Exhaust Gas Recovery (EGR) valve control electronics and Engine Control Unit (ECU) control electronics that have to operate in environments above 150°C. Our HT1104 Op Amp, HTVREF Voltage Reference and HT574 A/D converter make an ideal "core" sensor signal amplification and digitization product set for many applications. Our 160,000 gate HT2000 Digital Gate Array coupled with the reliable analog data conversion of our HT574 12 Bit A/D Converter and the guaranteed data retention of our HT6256 SRAM make them critical components in new EGR or ECU designs. Our HTPLREG provides a rock solid voltage regulator function to step down typical battery voltages to +5 Volts. And our HTVREF precision voltage reference provides a temperature insensitive voltage reference for all the signal conditioning products. Die level products are available for direct mounting into Honeywell or customer designed hybrids. Our die level HTMOS products enable new distributed engine controls that must continuously operate for up to 80,000 hours at temperature. Applicable products include: Die Level HT83C51, HT6256, HTVREF and HT2000. http://www.ssec.honeywell.com/ |

NEW! SMART Position Sensors from Honeywell
|

The SMART Position Sensor is one of the most durable, adaptable, and lightweight position sensors available in the industry, enabling highly accurate motion control and improving operation efficiency and safety. It's simple, non-contact design eliminates mechanical failure mechanisms, reducing wear and tear, improving reliability and durability, and minimizing downtime.

The SMART Position Sensor is a non-contacting sensing solution for absolute position sensing with enhanced accuracy. It senses the position of a magnet relative to the sensor in one of two available sensing ranges: 0 to 100 degrees, and 0 to 180 degrees.
Why is the SMART Position Sensor smart? SMART means that this is a sensor that can essentially think for itself. SMART Position Sensors provide a self-diagnostics feature and data gathering for enhanced reliability and closed-loop feedback control.
