Automatic Identifiation of Mounting Devices on Liebherr Hydraulic Excavators

The New Tool-Management utilizing RFID

Liebherr has been providing fully automatic coupling systems for hydraulic excavators for 25 years. Six years ago, Liebherr extended its product selection with the modularly designed, patened LIKUFIX quick change system. This system is used for fast changes of all hydraulic devices on a hydraulic excavator from the cab.

Liebherr presented the latest development phase of the LIKUFIX system with a new TOOL MANAGEMENT system at Bauma 2007. With the inductive RFID system Pepperl+Fuchs IDENT-I System P, the mounting tool is automatically detected by LIKUFIX during the change process. All necessary parameters are set on the excavator by the control system. This TOOL MANAGEMENT system makes excavators even more economical and prevents incorrect operations by the excavator driver. The result is lower operating and maintenance costs with greater productivity.

IPC03-16GK carrier

The IPH-18GM-V1 read/write head is mounted in the excavator's quick change system. Each mounting tool also contains a fully potted IPC03-16GK data carrier. Relevant information such as oil quantity, pressure, and type, or operating hours of mounting tools is recorded in this RFID chip and transferred inductively. The information is communicated through the IC-KP1-B16-LBH-SUBD control interface via a CAN-Bus interface from the IPH-18GM-V1 write/read head directly to the excavator control unit.

Advantages of the Pepperl+Fuchs RFID System
  • Sturdy design with fully plotted electronics in the IPH-18GM-V1 write/read head
  • Hight temperature resistance
  • Serial communication allows for mounting between write/read head and IC-KP1-B16-LBH-SUBD control interface independent of length
  • Direct communication with excavator control via. CAN-Bus interface
  • Rugged IPC03-16GK passive data carriers with protection type IP68/IP69K
  • Standardized economical data carriers

NEW!   Inclination Sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs

The new F99 inclination sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs combines durability and simplicity into one small housing, making it ideal for industrial environments.

The F99 inclination sensor provides a standardized 4 to 20 mA analog interface with a selectable angle measurement range between 0° to 360° without the need for a costly bus system. A spring mass system enables fast response times, Pepperl+Fuchs offers these non contact sensors in both single and dual-axis versions. Using two Teach-In buttons you can easily adjust the switching outputs.

F99 Inclination Sensor Highlights:
  • Non contact sensing of the inclination angle in one or two axes
  • Measuring range between 0° to 360°
  • Angular resolution 0.1°
  • Both analog and switching outputs
  • Two adjustable switching points
  • Protection degree IP68/IP69K

NEW!  Honeywell IPT (Integrated Pressure Transducer)

The Honeywell IPT provides high accuracy pressure data in an industry standard SPI digital format. The core of the IPT is a proven Honeywell silicon piezoresistive pressure sensor with both pressure and temperature sensitive elements.

the IPT is both small and lightweight and can be easily integrated into a wide variety of applications that require high performance in small packages. Applying the coefficients stored in the on-board EEPROm to the "normalized" IPT pressure and temperature output yields accurate pressure readings over the -40 to 85°C compensated temperature range.

            APPLICATIONS FOR IPT
  • Small Unmanned Air Vehicles
  • Small UAV Navigation SystemsHoneywell IPT
  • Air Data Computers
  • Cabin Air Pressure Systems
  • Small Weather Pods
  • Ocean Data Buoys
  • Medical Equipment
  • Remote Calibrators
  • Test Equipment
