Products and Applications:  Safety Switch Solutions

ROBUST SAFETY SWITCH SOLUTIONS FROM HONEYWELL

Nov 08 Issue
Key-operated interlock switches, cable-pull switches, hinge mount switches, trapped key, and solenoid key switches - Honeywell has a solution to meet your workplace safety needs. Designed with OEMs in mind, Honeywell offer a host of space-saving, tamper resistant, and positive opening devices that come with superior Honeywell service and global support.

            How Safety Switches Work:
  • Safety switches are electro-mechanical switches designed with normally-closed (N.C.) electrical contacts
  • Upon switch actuation, these contacts are forced to open by a non-resilient mechanical drive mechanism
  • The tamper resistant and rugged design cannot easily be defeated by an operator, i.e. torx screws on head
  • Positive opening is assured when a 2.5Kv dielectric (air gap) exists across NC contacts
  • Testing involves welding contacts with 1000 Amps, then break them by Normal actuation

Glen Rowsome, Safety Expert at X Tronics, reminds us that safety switches require critical attention to circuit design to maintain safety control, reliability and integrity. If you have an application that requires safety switches, please contact Glen to discuss your application.

New!  Chip-Scale 3-Axis Compass from Honeywell

Honeywell, Plymouth MN, launched the HMC5843 chip-scale 3-axis compass IC for mobile phones, personal navigation systems and portable auto navigation systems. The compass can provide expanded direction awareness when overlaid on GPS-enabled maps and can display compass, pointing, and heading information regardless of the angle at which the device is held. The IC includes 3-axis magnetoresistive sensors, a 12-bit ADC, and an I2C bus in by a 4 by 4 by 1.3 mm surface-mount chip-scale package.
