July 2012

Greetings!

On Thursday, June 28, 2012, the Supreme Court issued a ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). There is no question that this has been one of, if not the, most anticipated rulings in the history of the Court.  The ruling found that the ACA, including its individual mandate that American's buy health insurance, is constitutional.  There are tremendous implications of this ruling for those without insurance and the next year will be an exciting time as Utah puts an insurance exchange in place and makes important decisions regarding Medicaid expansion.
Signs indicate that some 23 million Americans will still lack insurance in 2019, after key provisions of the law have been in effect for as long as five or six years, according to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate.  The People's Health Clinic remains committed to providing access to quality medical care to all members of our community and we so appreciate your support.  Without you, our work would not be possible!

What access to affordable healthcare has meant to one Summit County resident...

In the world of real estate sales, there are few group insurance plans, no discounts.  And it's been a tough market the last few years.

With money tight and a family to care for, Mark Sanders has been grateful for the People's Health Clinic.  Here's what it has meant to him:

Going to where the people are.

If you need help feeding your family, chances are you don't have easy access to health care either.  Like 1 in 5 local residents, you may be uninsured.
The People's Health Clinic is holding screenings at the monthly Mobile Food Pantry events in Coalville and Heber City.
Volunteers for this partnership between the Christian Center of Park City and the Utah Food Bank distribute food to families in a friendly atmosphere.  Seemed like a natural union to us.
So on July 17th, we screened for diabetes and high blood pressure in Coalville.  We told folks about the Clinic's services.
As always, we were surprised to learn how many local people didn't know all the things we do at People's Health.  Do you?
