June 2012

Greetings!

This spring has brought women's health into clear focus.  A first-time grant from the Utah Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and a budding campaign to attract volunteer medical providers specializing in women's health will  begin to address tremendous local needs.

And to help us grow this and all our programs, we invite you to join us at three great events coming up in the next month - Healthy Laughs is this Saturday!  Scroll down for all the information.

As always, thank you for your efforts to help build a healthier community!

Dr. Robert Thomas and Dr. Virginia Homewood, volunteer providers specializing in women's health, are part of Clinic's expanded Women's Wellness Program

We are so glad these two doctors have joined our ranks, making more specialist options available to local women. I caught up with Dr. Homewood to hear her thoughts about caring for women at the Clinic.

The Clinic has always offered prenatal care. But what is new for women's care here?
There's a lot. For one thing, The People's Health Clinic has begun offering complete family planning services for the first time in its history. That's really significant.

And now when a general practitioner and patient have gynecological concerns,  the patient can see either Dr. Thomas or  Read More

Help Arrives from The Utah Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Did you know that Summit County has the highest breast cancer rate in the State of Utah?

And that Utah has the lowest breast cancer screening rate in the nation?  So we are very excited about this new grant which will provide clinical breast exams and screening mammograms for 125 women over 40 years of age this year.

Leanne Peters, Mission Manager for the Utah Affliliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, told us, "We are very excited about our new partnership with The People's Health Clinic to provide free screening mammograms to uninsured residents of Summit and Wasatch counties, which are part of our newly expanded service area."

"Other doctors just ignored my concerns.  Here I was heard.  My PHC doctor understood that I was trying to manage my chronic disease - but I needed to be able to AFFORD to manage it. The help the Clinic gave me in finding my really expensive medication at NO cost has changed everything for me."
