Greetings!
To all our wonderful volunteers, and to the many of you who volunteer all over our community,
Happy National Volunteer Week
April 15 - 19
|
In this month's issue, we present three volunteers who offer their distinct talents at the People's Health Clinic. We could go on..................
With tremendous gratitude on the part of the People's Health Clinic's patients,
|
Robin Nygaard - Board Member
"I moved to Park City eight years ago with my husband and teenaged son. After our first year in town I saw that, if I wanted family time with my husband and son, I needed to learn to ski. So, at age 48, I learned to ski. That next spring a small spiritual fellowship, The Unity Fellowship, learned about me and invited me to become their Spiritual leader. My adventure in Park City continued.
My life has always been built around being connected,

involved in community. As a minister and educator, living in Park City has become an adventure of investment in the vision of sustainable community for Park City. My dream is to see Park City become a community where the people who are the backbone to the service industry in our town can afford to live here, raise their families here. The People's Health Clinic brings that vision closer."
Norma O'Leary -
Registered Nurse - OB Visits for New Patients
- Masters Degrees in Midwifery and Women's Health
- Ten years as an RN in the Newborn ICU at St. Mark's Hospital
- Five years as a volunteer at People's Health Clinic.
|
There's so VERY much to learn about having a healthy baby, and Norma spends two mornings a month sharing her knowledge and counsel with new pregnant patients at PHC. For some, it is their very first visit with a health professional. The Prenatal Orientation class they have just attended gave basic information about what to expect, and this first OB visit is the perfect chance for the expectant women to have a checkup and blood work, receive their prenatal vitamins, and ask a million questions.
Norma's mission is to help patients be as healthy as possible during pregnancy to ensure their babies will get the best start. She especially focuses on diet and activity, to avoid gestational diabetes, now appearing in one out of every seven pregnancies. This condition increases the likelihood of developing Type ll diabetes.
"Finding out what our moms-to-be know and don't know is a matter of how you ask the questions. When I learn that, I can begin provide the knowledge they need." |
Maddy Shear -
Reach Out and Read Volunteer
"I hate to cook - that's why our regular haunts know to bring me an ice tea and extra lemons when I sit down. I was born in the Bronx and lived there until age ten but you can still here that New York accent.
Professionally it has been a wonderful ride with more to come. For twelve years I worked at Hasbro inc. eight years on the Playskool brand, and my last stint there as VP Marketing for the Parker Brothers division which is home of some old favorites like Monopoly, Clue and Sorry.

A few years ago, I was meeting with Nann Worel who I had met on City Tour - I am a graduate of Leadership Park City class XIV. Before I walked out the door, I had volunteered to coordinate PHC's new literacy program with Sarah Klingenstein. In 2011, the Clinic gave 540 books to our youngest patients."
"I know literacy can change the world, and I think with PHC's Reach Out and Read program
we are doing just that, one book at a time." |

Yes, we love our volunteers! They make us smile every day!

Patient Quote/Photo | |
"When you work hard all your life and you have insurance, you have no idea what it will be like if you are suddenly uninsured.
But when I really needed a doctor, the People's Health Clinic was there and made me believe that things were going to work out."
