Greetings!

In February, we've  been thinking about love.  How we love our volunteers each day when they arrive at the Clinic door.  How we love the opportunity to make a difference in lives of our neighbors.

A patient recently said, "You can work your whole life and suddenly, there you are without insurance.  I don't know what I would have done without this Clinic in the past year."

You make that possible, and we love you for it.

A Wonderful Patient-Doctor-Business Collaboration Brings Instant Test Results to our Lab

Improving Quality of Care for Patients with Blood Clots

Treating patients who have had or are in danger of developing blood clots is not simple.  The powerful anti-coagulant medication (warfarin) that our doctors prescribe is powerful, so its effects on must be closely monitored and adjustments made.  Until recently, blood test results took two to three days.  That's a long time not to know if you are in danger of either excessive bleeding from too high a dosage or of developing a blood clot if the dosage is too low.  Blood clots can travel to the lungs where they can be fatal.

Chris Pederson has his weekly blood test done by volunteer Justin Grisham - there's the new addition on the counter. Results are immediate

While February is still (barely) with us,
and we think about those we hold dear,
enjoy (and learn from) this short video ~
Go Red For Women presents: 'Just a Little Heart Attack'
Go Red For Women presents: 'Just a Little Heart Attack'

More women die of cardiovascular disease than from the next four causes of death combined,
including all forms of cancer.

Watch for common symptoms:

*Chest discomfort, in the center of the chest, that lasts more than a few minutes, or pain that goes away and comes back. It often feels like an uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain.

*Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

*Shortness of breath.

*Cold sweat
*Nausea or lightheadedness

As with men, women's most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

If you have any of these signs, don't wait more than five minutes

before calling for help.

Call 9-1-1...Get to a hospital right away.

UPDATES & REMINDERS
"The doctors here take all the time they need to give you personalized treatment. And the staff is so nice - no one judges you for how much you can donate or for needing to come to the Clinic."

- Laura Crain, whose son Garrett is a patient of longtime volunteer Kathy Ostler MD

Congratulations to Volunteer of the Month

Peter Montes!

Peter Montes has been volunteering as an interpreter since October 2011. He's been a very wonderful addition to our volunteer family.  Faithfully he comes in weekly and is very personable with staff and patients. Peter is willing to help with any clinic needs and has also volunteered to help with community outreach screenings.
