Cozier Babies & Happier Moms |
Project at Temple Har Shalom Brings
Four Generations of Women Together
to Make "Welcome Baby Baskets"
|
 | Director Nann Worel and Prenatal Instructors Mariely Ferrer, and Fanny Vernal are thrilled to receive the baskets from Temple Har Shalom and Clinic Volunteer Pamela Herskovitz |
Mitzvah means "good deed" in the Hebrew tradition, in which doing good for others is a joyful obligation. On September 11th, Temple Har Shalom held its first Mitzvah Day. Two hundred members came together
to clear trails, crush cans, etc. We are grateful that ten women and girls got together to create baskets for the People's Health Clinic moms-to-be
who complete a series of prenatal classes.
They tied 19 fleece baby blankets, then lined laundry tubs with them and filled them with clothing, diapers, baby books, baby powder, and a little gift for mom, all donated by Temple members.
At one point they realized that some had brought their mothers or grandchildren - in fact four generations were represented. It was a project all could help with. Women who receive the baskets have always been grateful. This new gift from Temple Har Shalom refills our shelves for the new moms coming along. Thanks!

A Long-time Vision Achieved |
After 11 years of wishing it were so,
the People's Health Clinic will offer
expanded vision care to children & adults! |

Countless patients ask doctors and assistants if we can give them a vision test or help them get new glasses. Starting this month, EyeCare4Kids will provide vision care one day a month at the People's Health Clinic, offering both detection and treatment of vision problems as well as affordable prescription eyeglasses for both children and adults. This care may range from a followup after a

The Clinic Holds Free Health Screenings @ Anaya's Latin Market
In August
We invited, accosted, and cajoled the shoppers at Anaya's to have vital screenings of diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol. Just a finger stick and a squeeze of the blood pressure cuff, and it's all done. Of 44 participants seen, 23 were advised to see their doctor immediately for further testing. Many have since visited a People's Health Clinic physician.
Here's what was so poignant ~ many of the participants were fearful of the screenings and would not be likely to seek out these tests. And now, thanks to Clinic Coordinator Mariely Ferrer's clear explanations of the conditions they may have and the need for followup, they understand more about their health. They trust People's Health and can become more active partners in their
own care.

This project was part of a grant from the
Utah Office of Health Disparities Reduction: Center for Multicultural Health, to increase healthcare access to Latinos.

The competition is fierce, libations are available, and snacks are included for an admission of $10.
Each year the Association raises money to help support the care of their employees here at the Clinic. They know that almost 20% of Clinic patients work in local food services, and they are glad the People's Health Clinic is here to keep their staff healthy through the busy season. |
