The People's Health Clinic News

August  2011

Greetings!

Did you know that 1 in 5 of your neighbors lacks any form of health insurance? Because of your support, people in our community find the healthcare they need at the People's Health Clinic.  You impact lives every day.

In staying responsive to needs in the community, we are working to make sure every local resident who needs the Clinic is aware of its services.  Watch for more information about these efforts in next month's newsletter.

Another Way to Volunteer

Human Resources Consultant Shares Expertise

and Saves Clinic Thousands of Dollars

Casey Bailey
Nann & Casey prepare to share the new Handbook on August 3rd.

The People's Health Clinic began on a wing and a prayer.  Funding from the George and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation bought a medical van and off they went - seeing patients around the two counties a couple nights a week.

And now look at the Clinic you've all helped build - housed permanently in a great facility and seeing over 7,000 patient visits last year.  The Clinic has grown up, and there are myriad details to attend to.  Procedures and policies need to further the Clinic's mission and protect patients, volunteers and staff, while keeping up with changing federal and state laws.

Nann Worel, Executive Director, knew last summer that the Clinic's Employee Handbook needed an update.  At the same time, Casey Bailey White, Vice-President of The Houston Group, a human resources consulting company, was on her way towards People's Health.  She had recently moved to town and wanted to become involved in a local cause.  Casey found our Facebook page and was intrigued.

So, as you can probably guess, Casey called and introduced herself, met with Nann...... Read more

For the past year and a half, Mary has been volunteering as a clerical assistant.  She has brought her skills from nursing school and medical office work to us and we are so grateful for her volunteer time.  Mary also enjoys helping with events

Thank you, Mary, for your willingness to do any task that we need in the office.  The work changes every day, and we're glad you're here to help us out.

Why is Prenatal Care

So Crucial?

Working to Make Each New Beginning

This Sweet.........

Andrea is one of hundreds of prenatal patients seen by Clinic providers over the years.  During a routine ultrasound, her PHC provider diagnosed placenta previa, a condition in which the placenta covers the opening to the birth canal.  A ceasarean section delivery was required to prevent the possible death of mother and baby, or serious brain damage to the baby, when blood and oxygen are cut off as the baby tries to push through the placenta in the birth canal.  By performing a series of ultrasounds throughout Andrea's pregnancy, the Clinic helped her plan for the ceasarean and avoid a devastating and very costly emergency room discovery of the condition.    Since 2000, the People's Health Clinic has saved lives, as well as saving individuals and the community hundreds of thousands of dollars in neonatal and intensive care charges.

New Development Director Sheila Jackson

We're proud to announce that Sheila Jackson has joined the Development team at People's Health. As Director of Development, Sheila will expand development efforts, connecting donors, partners, and community support. Sheila comes to us from Washington State, with a strong background in nonprofit fundraising and communications (read bio here).  Sheila says, "I am so happy to be a part of the Park City community and working to strengthen support and grow resources for the Clinic."

The entire clinic staff, especially the rest of the Development team of part-timers Sarah Klingenstein, Jenny Dorsey and Terry Moffitt welcome Sheila and are enjoying getting to know her.

Brooks Harbertson, chair of the Clinic's Foundation Board, said that "the goal of hiring a Director now was to "take the wonderful things the Clinic does and sustain those efforts over the long term. We want the Clinic to be here, helping the community for as long as it's needed. And the Board is thrilled that such an experienced fundraiser as Sheila was drawn to our mission."
