'Neath the snows of March are the stirrings of spring - we're just sure of it - and a big season of activity at PHC.  As patients continue to visit with our staff and volunteer docs, we are planning ways to bring awareness of our work to the community and to enlighten us all about important health issues.  Read about these upcoming events below.

As always, we thank you for what you do to bring doctors and patients together every day.

Please Note:

PHC will be on air today, Wednesday, from 4 to 5 p.m. in support of KPCW's Spring Fund Drive.  Call and make your donation during that hour!

PHC Prenatal Series

Helping Families Grow

 Elizabeth and Fanny

At first Elizabeth doesn't seem like the typical Prenatal class student  - she and her husband already have an 8-year-old son.  But when they attended PHC's required prenatal orientation class, the instructor touched on a lot about babies and children that she didn't know.  So when she heard about the seven-week series of prenatal classes the Clinic offers in conjunction with Holy Cross Ministries, she signed up.

Elizabeth just completed the series with perfect attendance.  She says the classes opened her eyes - now she knows the importance of really listening to children when they want to tell a story, and really believing your children if they tell you they don't feel safe with an adult they know.  And post-partum depression - if you feel sad after childbirth, it doesn't mean you don't love your baby. And there is help available.

Fanny Vernal, the Holy Cross Ministries instructor, has her office at PHC, where she not only teaches the classes, but helps PHC patients find health insurance opportunities and other services.  She's glad to have seven weeks with the mothers-to-be.  "We have the time to dig into so many topics - understanding domestic violence, issues about breast-feeding, birth control options and the importance of vaccinating your baby, among so many others.  Our patients are very lucky - at other clinics or hospitals this type of course would cost hundreds of dollars, and it's free at PHC."

Elizabeth is grateful that the Clinic is so affordable and the people so patient and caring - "The People's Health Clinic is the best thing about Park City."

From her daily job in housekeeping at a local hotel, sometimes, she says, "I had to come here on the run - I didn't want to miss my class.  It's worth it; the classes have made me a better mother, for our son Christian and the new baby arriving in May."

March Volunteer

Monica Hull

Monica Hull

Monica has been a wonderful addition to our volunteer team.   She joined us in January as a phlebotomist and has been a very constant, faithful volunteer.

Monica will be attending the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Utah this May, and we'll miss her.

"I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work amongst many genuinely dedicated staff and medical providers.  As I begin my training to be a Physician Assistant at the University of Utah in May, I will reflect on the kind and compassionate care I witnessed at the People's Clinic and do my best to emulate it in my practice!  Thank you People's Clinic! I will be back!"

Dr. John Hanrahan Joins Staff

Will See Patients Tuesdays & Thursdays

One of the founders of the Clinic, Dr. Hanrahan was active for many years as Volunteer Medical Director, Volunteer Executive Director, and Board member.  After several years' hiatus, John rejoined the Board of Directors in 2007 where he has served until he recently joined the Clinic staff.  John is enjoying his reacquaintance with the Clinic side of PHC.  "The care we can provide in this amazing facility is wonderful to be a part of. And our growing relationship with IHC, which allows us to help patients beyond our walls with tests and specialist visits, has had an enormous impact."

Though the Clinic counts on thousands of hours of volunteer help each year, maintaining a small medical and support medical staff is crucial.   With one or two staff physicians or nurse midwives, and the Clinic Coordinator, always in attendance, patients can count on consistent practices and a physician who knows their case.  It's what we all hope for in our medical care!

Dedicated Oncologist Ann Eisenbraun Will Be Missed

Her passion was cancer prevention.Ann Eisenbraun 2

Dr. Ann Eisenbraun died suddenly on February 9th.
During her time as a volunteer at PHC Dr. Ann  was delighted to have the opportunity to prevent  the cancers she had spent her career trying to cure.
She once said, "As an oncologist, I usually see people who have not had these diagnostic tests.  Here I can help them get those tests."  Ann was respected by staff and volunteers for care and her dedication, often working several long shifts each week at PHC.  We send our sympathies to her family and many friends in the community.

Families from three local preschools clean out their toddler bookshelves for our Reach Out and Read Program. Some kids' homes are filled with bright and educational books - others' are not.  And that can make all the difference in a child's future. That's why PHC gives a book away to every child that comes through our  doors.  And Soaring Wings Montessori School, Park City Cooperative ...

Tis the season...
when we ask local restaurants to support PHC.

Twenty percent of PHC patients are employed by local restaurants.  Our Restaurant Partners program offers up-to-date clinic info for employers to share with their staff, and asks for a donation based on the size of the restaurant.

We are proud to announce our first Restaurant Partners of 2011 -
