Refreshing Cucumber Water
from PHC's Family Wellness class
cucumber water

With the new  "No Soda" rule at home, the Aguirre family now keeps a pitcher of Cucumber Water chilled in the fridge. Delicious!

Peel cucumbers and place in large chunks in a blender with lime and just a touch of sugar.  Fill the blender with water and blend on high till liquified.  Adjust ingredients till you get just the right blend. It's that easy!

"What I like about People's Health is - absolutely everything."
"I was treated with patience and respect, and the doctor responded to all my worries."
"The doctors almost always solve my problems with me, or they will send me to see someone who might have another way."

Your donations and volunteer talents have allowed us to keep up with the 26% increase in new patients the first half of 2010 has brought - bringing more and more local residents face-to-face with a qualified health provider during these tough economic times.
With your support, PHC has new programs underway to meet community needs - well care for children and adults, healthy lifestyle education for families, and outreach to areas in the two counties where residents may not know about us.  Read on.
PHC Wellness Classes a Big Success
Coming together as a family to learn new ways to live a healthier life makes all the difference

The family of Bernardino Aguirre
knew they had to do something.  With a heart attack in 2008 and 100 pounds he couldn't seem to lose, the husband and father of two was on a bad track.  Then his doctor at People's Health told them about a new family wellness classes being taught in Spanish at the Clinic. Five weeks - five weigh-ins -  weekly personal goalsetting - and loads of practical instruction on nutrition and exercise.

Bernardino's wife Montse says "Before the class, our family was not really together.  Now we all help, we eat and talk and help clean the dishes.  We have united and grown as a family."

Nellie, soon to be a sophomore at Park City High, felt her Dad needed the family's support. "We knew that if we all did it, he could do it." She laughs as she describes the fun activities the kids' group were involved in - with kids from 6 - 16.

Mariely Ferrer, PHC Clinic Coordinator and head instructor, was amazed at the level of excitement and participation among the children.  "They were shocked when they learned, for example, how much sugar is in a 12-ounce soda.  Now they are helping to pick out food at the store, rather than begging for junk food.  And these are the goals, to help those who have problems right now, and to make changes in their children's food and exercise choices."

By the end of the five-week session, Bernardino had lost 17 pounds and was going strong with the support of those closest to him. The next session of the Family Wellness Class in Spanish begins August 11.  Anyone interested can call Mariely at (435) 333-1858.
