Volunteer Designers Build a New Website for PHC
Team at work on last-minute changes
 | Knowing what a huge time commitment it would be, we were stunned back in September to receive an offer from a local web designer we'd never met to create a new site for PHC. Dave Napiwocki offered to design it, and recruited Bryan Hoffman to help with the development and share some of the time commitment. They worked on this project in their spare time, outside of their full-time jobs: Dave as Marketing Director at Keller Williams Park City, and Bryan as principal of Spigot Design.
Web design and technology change rapidly, and maintaining an up-to-date presence on the Web takes time and, usually, costs a lot. This new design not only looks fresher; the application is easier for staff to update and allows us to present more complete information to patients, volunteers and supporters. We have added a Google map to our new location, more pages in Spanish, an event calendar, and plan to add a volunteer signup calendar. It is much easier to post news Continue reading on the new site

One Doctor's Take on This Clinic You Help Sustain
This week I sat down with Dr. Jeff Holverson to ask why he has given one to two full days each week to care for PHC patients since joining us in the fall.
"This is a satisfying clinic," he said. "We have some fundamental resources here that allow us to find out if a patient has a really serious condition without bankrupting him or her. For example, we see many patients with diabetes. We know there is no prevalent disease as manageable as diabetes, nor one that has more of an impact on total health.
Dr. Holverson said that, knowing that, PHC has put together the components to help patients manage it:
**affordable office visits
**an encouraging environment
**education given on site
**availability of specialists for eyes and feet
**prescription of generic low-cost medications
He said, "The impact is huge, and we're doing it with other silent, lethal, and amenable diseases. As a physician told me long ago, 'A doctor by himself is a very lonely rower in a very big boat.' Here a doctor has the support he needs, thanks to Mariely Ferrer (Clinic Coordinator), Dr. Bob Pellegrine (Medical Director), and the compassionate community that has created this place over the past ten years." |
