The BIG Picture by Sarah Klingenstein
In my daily comings and goings volunteering and working at PHC, I have the chance to see the big picture and think about the impact the Clinic has on our community every day.
Over time I have had the chance to interview women in Marta Johnson's Prenatal Orientation class. Here are a few things they've shared with me about their experiences at PHC:
"My mom asked me why I need to keep coming back for visits when there's nothing wrong. I said, 'To make sure it stays that way.'"
"In the class I learned how to eat well for me and my baby. And how the baby is growing inside of me."
"If the Clinic wasn't here I probably wouldn't go to see a doctor until I delivered."
"I like seeing my doctor every time. She really knows me now."
"I don't know where I would go to deliver if I didn't have my doctor at this Clinic. Probably the Emergency Room?"
When I pass a waiting room full of patients or translate a doctor/patient conversation, I often ask myself, "What would this person do if PHC weren't here?" Of course the answers would vary, from delaying care until a condition has worsened to seeking one-time visit at the ER for a chronic disease to, I suppose, never seeing a doctor. It makes me so glad we are here for the community. It helps me remember the big picture.

Frequently Asked Question
Will the new PHC be located in the new Park City Medical Center?
No. We willl be located in the new Summit County Health Department building. Anyone who has toured the new Park City Medical Center has driven by the almost-completed building. We're on the left side of Round Valley Drive, about 1/2 mile before the Medical Center.
We won't be IN the new Medical Center, but you can see it from our staff room! |

Greetings!
10 Weeks Until the Opening of Our New Facility
at Quinn's Junction!
One of our new exam rooms
almost ready for patients!
The day we have been waiting so long for is fast approaching. Our staff and volunteers will begin seeing patients at the new Clinic during the first week of December.
This new facility would never have been possible without the incredible generosity of Intermountain Health Care and Summit County, and the teamwork between the three organizations.
Charlie Wintzer, former Board Chair who has been PHC's construction liaison, explained the amazing partnership:
IHC is leasing the land to the County to house the County Health Department - for $1 a year.
Summit County is leasing 5000 square feet of that building to PHC - for $1 a year.
The cost of building PHC's space is less than what the County would have paid for the land.
In other words, People's Health Clinic space was built AT NO COST TO COUNTY TAXPAYERS!

New Executive Director Nann Worel
Following Judy Sobin's departure in July, Nann Worel was hired as Executive Director by unanimous decision of the PHC Board. Nann holds Master's degrees in Nursing and Hospital Administration. After teaching nursing in Alabama, she was Administrator of Women's Services for a not-for-profit hospital, then helped to found and operate a free clinic in Mobile. She has been at PHC for a year as Development Director.
"The Clinic was indeed fortunate to have Nann become available as a candidate for the position of Executive Director. Her extensive health related background and her intimate knowledge of the workings of PHC over the past year made her the perfect candidate. Nann is assuming the reins of leadership as we move forward into our new clinic facility, with the continuing challenges facing PHC in assuring adequate health care for the uninsured of our community. We are pleased that she has agreed to assume this important leadership position." -
