PHC Volunteers Are Eating Well  These Days!

For the past 3 or 4 months, local restaurants and several individuals have been  contributing dinners for Clinic volunteers.  We've enjoyed curries, Mexican casseroles, pizzas, and bagel sandwiches.  Recently, Mountain Express delivery has signed on to deliver these meals for free.  Thanks to Sandra Goldman and Sarah Klingenstein for helping to organize these meals.

To join those listed below by contributing a dinner periodically, please email Sarah at [email protected].

Attention Volunteers!

Volunteer Orientation:

An orientation will be held Wednesdy, June 17 at 6 p.m. at the Clinic.  This is an informational session for new and longtime volunteers to learn about Clinic operations and news.  Those who attend really understand Clinic programs and mission, and become more effective ambassadors for People's Health.  Contact Nina at [email protected].  Refreshments will be served!

Volunteer News:
Since it's graduation season, we'd like to feature our volunteers' happy news!    If you have recently graduated from college or high school, earned a medical board certification, been accepted into a medical program, or gotten a new job, let us know.  As a volunteer, I often wonder
about someone I've worked with at PHC. Did he get into med school? Did she pass her boards? Don't be shy - let us know what's going on. Either reply to this newsletter or email [email protected].

Greetings!

A message from Mike Andrews, PHC Board Chair:

The statistics tell the story: patient visits up 37% from last year, Caucasian patient visits have doubled, government and foundation funding is down, the number of uninsured is increasing.  Throw in the "swine flu" scare and we have the ingredients for the perfect health care storm in Park City, as well as in the rest of the country.  However.................

The good news is that People's Health is here and still providing quality medical care for those most in need.  Our finances and staff are stretched, but in April our doctors logged 495 patient visits.  And people with chronic illness are getting quality ongoing care rather than waiting to make emergency visits to local hospitals for stop-gap treatments.

This month we highlight four donations we received last month.  They were made by local organizations that found our work compelling in these tough times.  We are so grateful, and encourage you to donate now, either as an individual, family, or organization.
Summit & Wasatch Counties Medical Society Makes $10,000 Grant to PHC

Medical Society
Dr. Joseph Ferriter, Kelton Ferriter, Dr. Mary Parsons,
Judy Sobin, Mariely Ferrer

The local organization of medical providers made the donation from dues collected from their members. The membership determined that People's Health Clinic, being an integral component of health care in our area, was the best organization to receive their donation.  The Society is the local chapter of the Utah Medical Society, which is also a PHC supporter.  These funds will go far to help us in our work!

PHC is currently recruiting local providers to see patients two hours each month at the Clinic.  This campaign, called "Take 2 and Call Us in the Morning!", will increase our local impact on a daily basis.  Please encourage any doctors or nurse practicioners you know to sign up by calling Mariely at (435) 625-7822 or emailing [email protected].

Little Stars Preschoolers at Temple Har Shalom Practice Tzedakah

Teacher Stefani Kimche tells how the children of her preschool class came to donate $38.64 to the People's Health Clinic in May.

"Every week I asked the kids to bring in some money for tzedakah.  Tzedakah is the Hebrew word for charity and is one of the most important Jewish tenets.  The kids were asked to "earn" their money that they contributed, and the parents generously subsidized their pocket change.  In the class we had a large rocket ship bank to collect the money - our "tzedakah rocket".  We would spend a while in circle time each week talking about what good uses we could put our money towards.  Most often the kids spoke about medicine, food, keeping people healthy, helping sick kids... because of that, we all agreed that The People's Health Clinic would be a perfect recipient."

The People's Health Clinic thanks the children and their teacher for their generosity and hard work to help the people of our community.

Park City Rotary Clubs Give to PHC

Park City is lucky to have two Rotary Clubs and PHC is lucky that both are supporters of The People's Health Clinic!

The month of May brought a donation of $1500 from the Park City Rotary Club for PHC's Chronic Disease program and a donation of $500 from The Sunrise Rotary Club for $500 for general operations.
