Singers to Donate Concert Proceeds

The Ingenious Three (Keith Trickett, Lisa Romney & Danny McDonnall) will present a free program of vocal music on November 10.  The musicians will accept donations on behalf of People's Health. Keith held a concert last year and raised a tidy sum for the Clinic and we so appreciate the effort and the beautiful music.  This year's program will include a variety of musical styles and periods, from arias and Bach cantatas to Broadway songs.

Greetings!

Here's news of another big step People's Health Clinic has taken on our road to a permanent home:

On October 3rd, Summit County, Intermountain Health Care and The People's Health Clinic broke ground on the new building at Quinn's Junction.

At this groundbreaking, there was no goldplated shovel to turn the soil.  We started with a wall of cardboard boxes, labelled with some of
The Barriers to Healthcare -
Low-Paying Jobs, Language, Cost of Insurance,
Transportation, Seasonal Jobs, Fear....

Barriers

Then we ceremoniously pulled down those barriers!

Pulling down barriers cropped

There are so many people to thank - we couldn't do it justice.  And as Executive Director John Hanrahan and Commissioner Sally Elliott said, "This collaboration between a hospital, a County and a non-profit clinic is one-of-a-kind, and something to be very proud of!"

Volunteer Lyla Hunt Learns the Ropes
of a Future Career in Medicine

Lyla
Lyla assists with charting of Diabetic patients,
as well as taking patients' vitals.

Since being diagnosed with Diabetes at the age
of 2, Lyla Hunt has spent more time than she cares to think about in doctors' offices, being treated and learning about her condition and how to care for herself.  She has found one silver lining though: she has developed a fascination with medicine and a goal to work in the medical field.  Recently, a family friend and local doctor who knew of this interest suggested she look into volunteering at People's Health.  So she has added Wednesdays at the Prenatal Clinic to her high school schedule, which includes Anatomy, Chemistry, and membership in the Health Occupations Student Association.
Lyla has always learned best by doing, so staff members are giving her a variety of tasks to challenge her and make her experiences as varied and instructive as possible.

MytimefitnessMy Time Fitness will hold a special event to benefit PHC on November 1!

All classes held that afternoon will be free, with any donations going to PHC.  They will also offer health screenings by PHC volunteer & MTF member Donna Wahoff-Stice and snacks donated by Albertson's.  My Time Fitness is also donating free 6-month memberships for 2 patients to be chosen be Clinic staff.

The staff at My Time Fitness believes that
"giving back is especially important in these troubled economic times when there is an increasing number of hard working people that simply cannot afford basic health care."
